The Louisiana Special Schools are experiencing a critical shortage of certified teachers, school counselors, interpreters and educators of the Deaf or hard of hearing.

The LA SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking applicants for an

INSTRUCTIONAL COACH at the LA SCHOOL FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED.

The Instructional Coach\'s primary purpose is to provide leadership to classroom teachers to improve academic achievement and behavior of all students. This position will plan, implement and assess intervention services to ensure fidelity. The Instructional Coach will increase the staff\'s capacity to effectively implement identified core universal practices by providing staff with ongoing professional development. This is an 11 month position.

Qualifications

  • Louisiana Teacher certification as set forth in Louisiana Standards for State Certification of School Personnel (Bulletin 746) including Deaf education endorsement. Must acquire certification within three years of hire date.
  • Instructional Coach Certification. Must acquire Instructional Coach certification within three years of hire date.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience and/or professional experience.
  • Special Education experience preferred.
  • Flexibility and creativity in approaches to teaching/learning.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the state content standards and assessment process.

  • Analyze district assessment data to understand students\' needs in order to select and recommend evidence-based instructional interventions to implement.
  • Serve as part of a team that assists classroom teachers in understanding and completing more in depth assessments in order to identify specific deficits/needs of a specific student or a group of students.
  • Use systematic and valid data collection procedures to measure effectiveness of services provided in order to evaluate the impact on student achievement.
  • Provide professional development opportunities in universal best practices and interventions for learning and behavior to school staff.
  • Participate in school sponsored activities.
Programmatic Responsibilities
  • Work with individual instructors to ensure that all are using approved State curricula in all subject areas.
  • Work with students individually and in groups to teach and assist students in the development of reading content area strategies and literacy content area habits and skills.
  • Develop supplemental instruction for identified students.
  • Presents subject matter to students to maximize learning opportunity and provides real-world, application based examples and learning opportunities.
  • Strives to maximize the educational achievement of each student.
  • Assesses student strengths and weaknesses on a frequent basis, provides appropriate activities to address student needs and generates progress reports as required.
  • Refers students suspected to need additional supports.
  • Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for the continual improvement of the school\'s curriculum.
  • Participate in school based leadership opportunities (i.e.: team meeting, lead teacher meeting, etc).
  • Assigns lessons, corrects student work product and reviews oral presentations.
  • Prepares students for state required achievement assessments.
  • Collaborate with other teachers for the purpose of increasing student achievement by ensuring core instructional best practices are implemented with fidelity and that staff are differentiating instruction to meet the needs of students.
  • Utilize protocols to ensure that interventions have been implemented with fidelity
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to coordinate small group and one-on-one instruction.
  • Provide assistance and information to classroom teachers to enhance instructional techniques.
  • Facilitate effective instruction that meets the individual needs of diverse learners by consulting with staff on individualized instruction, managing classroom behavior, monitoring student progress, evaluating classroom data and adjusting intervention and instructional strategies to make content accessible to every student.
  • Mentor and coach staff for the purpose of building capacity to teach academic and behavioral skills in order to improve academic and behavior instruction at the schools.
  • Maintain and use records on student data and contact with staff.
  • Effectively communicate, collaborate and consult with staff, administrators and families on promoting positive peer relationships and social problem solving, school wide positive behavior systems, interventions, supports and programs to promote student wellness and reduce barriers to learning.
