Position DescriptionThis Faculty position is a high priority for Zane State College for the 2024-2025 year.Zane State College recognizes Occupational Therapy Assistants as one of the fastest growing positions in health care.As an OTA Instructor, you will provide an engaging learning experience to guide our students toward a promising future.
The primary role of faculty is to serve as facilitators of student learning. Faculty enhance the learning process through educational and discipline specific professional development activities. Faculty advance the institution through participation in college, professional and community activities. An OTA Faculty person who is assigned the responsibilities for fieldwork coordination are additionally responsibilities, as listed, for OTA Program fieldwork.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFACILITATOR OF STUDENT LEARNING: The teaching and learning process is a partnership promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience between teacher and student. This process provides meaningful learning experiences enabling learners to develop their ability to solve problems, think critically and creatively, and communicate effectively while developing marketable technical skills. Faculty do this by:

  • Providing instruction
  • Developing and revising curriculum
  • Providing a safe and inviting learning environment
  • Providing student evaluation and feedback in a timely manner
  • Participating in the assessment of student learning through program assessment
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Using appropriate learner-centered instructional methods
  • Keeping current with the use of appropriate technology
  • Integrating the principles of workplace values in the learning environment
  • Maintaining equipment and materials in the learning environment
  • Preparing and distributing course syllabi
  • Advising students
  • Scheduling and maintaining adequate office hours
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH: Faculty enhance meaningful learning experiences by:
  • Participating in professional activities
  • Collaborating with colleagues
  • Exploring innovative teaching, learning, and technology practices, and
  • Creating, implementing, and evaluating an annual, individualized plan detailing goals for growth in collaboration with the Division Dean.
SERVICE: Faculty promote a positive working relationship through participation and leadership service to:
  • The students
  • The College
  • Professional organizations, and
  • The community
ACADEMIC FIELDWORK COORDINATION: Faculty who have a duty of coordination/direction of fieldwork are further responsible for the following:
  • Oversight of fieldwork program including ongoing communication with sites, training and coordination of fieldwork visits by faculty
  • Recruitment of fieldwork sites
  • Assessment of fieldwork educator qualifications
  • Evaluation of fieldwork sites
  • Assignment of students to fieldwork sites
  • Assignment of faculty to fieldwork visits
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Ohio licensed Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Absent a Master's degree, the faculty member will be required to develop and follow a plan to earn a Masters degree.
  • Previous teaching experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with curriculum development, using instructional technology, and distance learning is preferred.
Employment and BenefitsThis is a nine month (academic year) position with a part-time summer appointment.
