Position Overview:

Vermont Law School seeks a results-orientated and energic Admissions Counselor to help guide prospective students through enrollment. The Admission Counselor is a primary contact for all individuals inquiring about the academic programs and non-degree options at VLS. As a key admissions team member, this position will help inspire and introduce VLS to people looking for personal and professional growth and advancement. This position will work primarily with International Students.

The counselor will cultivate and guide international students through enrollment and the visa process. This position will serve as the (DSO) for the F-1 Student Visa and the Alternative Resource Officer (ARO) for the Exchange Visitor Program.

Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:

International Admissions and Recruitment

  • Develop and coordinate international recruitment efforts, create a recruitment schedule, register for recruitment fairs, and schedule webinars.
  • In collaboration with the VLGS marketing team, develop the strategy, copy, and content for marketing efforts related to international students, including social media strategy, building alumni and student profiles, and recruitment emails.
  • Create, evaluate, and assess web or print content regarding international student admissions and services.
  • Identify and follow up with prospective international students; advise international students throughout the enrollment process. Conduct counseling appointments in person, via phone, email, virtually, or other relevant communications platforms as necessary.
  • Evaluate foreign credentials and language ability; employ various tools, including credential evaluation services and phone and/or video interviews.
  • Communicate with accepted students on deposits, housing, flight information, etc.; facilitate international student enrollment, housing, and registration processes.
  • Maintain an understanding of international recruitment, enrollment, and retention factors. Meet regularly with constituent departments to discuss policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Serve as DSO and ARO for F-1 and Exchange Visitor visa holders. Responsible for issuing the initial I-20 or DS-2019, and registering students in the SEVIS database.
  • Assist with the Campus Visit Program, including on-campus events and individual campus visits.
  • Assist with lead/inquiry and application processing operations, which include all on-campus and online learning programs.
  • Assist in creating events that support international visitors, students, and scholars, such as pre-orientation and orientation programs, pre-departure and re-entry orientation programs, and ongoing workshops which address topics unique to these populations.
  • Collect and compile accurate program data; prepare reports as required.
  • Perform general administrative work in support of department efforts. This may include but is not limited to available word processing, database report generation, phone/office reception, making appointments, coordinating meetings, etc.
  • Assist with other special programs related to international students, general admissions, international partnerships, and diversity initiatives.
Requirements:

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • A bachelor\'s degree, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education, is required.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Database and CRM Management experience with strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Must be able to work legally within the United States without sponsorship.
  • Physical ability to perform all essential functions of the job with or without basic accommodations.
