Job Description

Located in SW Cedar Rapids, ACP, Inc. is a division of Welbilt, an Ali Group Company, and since 1969, has been a leader in manufacturing and designing commercial high-speed and microwave ovens used in some of your favorite restaurants.


We are looking for an experienced

Lab Technician

to support design engineering regulatory safety testing of commercial microwave products, electro-mechanical troubleshooting and new product development engineering lab activities.


Key Accountabilities:

Documents procedures for various test setups, testing parameters, measurements, and reporting, including UL/CSA and IEC regulatory testing. Demonstrates ability to understand system wiring diagrams for both high and low voltage connections, connect digital counters/timers, test probes, and perform production line troubleshooting activities (production parts, digital control and wire harness connections). Operates and maintains reliability testing of products, along with equipment setup and maintenance. This includes data acquisition, environmental testing, 3-D printing, oscilloscopes, hipots, ground bond testers, HV transformer tests, air flow/pressure testing, and other lab equipment as required. Supports the design and construction of mechanical test jigs/fixtures for product testing. Fabricates prototype new products based on CAD models, preliminary drawings, and engineering guidance. Assists in field-test unit customer setup evaluations. Evaluates returned parts and units for quality control purposes. Utilizes MS Office to compose and summarize test data or failures in reports submitted to Engineers.

Requirements/Position Competencies:

Associates degree or equivalent in electronics technology is preferred. Alternatively, a high school diploma with five years of experience working in a lab or model shop will be considered. Candidates should be familiar with electrical schematics, electronic theory and practice, as well as high and low voltage systems. A strong understanding of mechanical systems, including air movement, fan/pressure curves, AC/DC motors, and sheet metal fabrication (laser cutting, press brakes), is required. Proficiency in 3-D CAD software for interpreting engineering design models for mechanical builds, sheet metal fabrication, system wiring, spot welding, and related fabrication techniques are necessary. Computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel is essential, while familiarity with LabView is desirable. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable problem-solving skills and prior experience in a "skunkworks" model shop environment is considered advantageous.
