Summary or PurposeResponsible for the overall plan, design, installation, maintenance, management and coordination of Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) integration.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.Provide network infrastructure engineering and management support for the Borough including design, schematics and templates, evaluation and diagnosis of problems, and maintenance and repair of hardware and peripheral equipment.Performs computer trouble shooting to diagnose network system problems; analyzes network computers and peripherals functionality; identifies, locates, resolves and repairs problems; documents work performed.Plans and coordinates the continuous development, operation and maintenance of the WAN/LAN; installs software and enhancements; documents work performed.Coordinates staff; plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects.Tests, evaluates and enhances network backbone hardware and software; adds and deletes components as required, configures software and tunes hardware for maximum work performance.Tests, evaluates and enhances server and PC hardware and software; adds deletes components as required; configures software upgrades and enhancements; documents work performed.Monitors and resolves basic network stability and connectivity problems.Maintains and updates network computer systems; installs software upgrades and enhancements, documents work performed.Reviews directory structure to maintain local user accounts and system security for e-mail and shared files.Remains current on trends and technology changes; evaluate new hardware, software and related equipment for functionality and fit to current operating environment and user needs.Monitors and resolves basic network stability and connectivity problems.Provides advanced software and software support to PC users.Ensure the maintenance of inventory for all LAN/WAN supplies.Participate in information systems planning, research, development and implementation.Scheduling of major system repairs and upgrade.Assist in the research and implementation of systems upgrades.Participate in InfoComm team efforts, including day-to-day operations and user support.Establish and maintain effective work relationships with all NSB Departments.Travel to outlying villages as required.Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of Borough policies and procedures.Knowledge of principals and capabilities of computer systems, including networked environments and peripheral devices.Knowledge of commonly used Information Services concepts, practices and procedures.Knowledge of Local Area Network principles.Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting techniques.Knowledge of local systems access and security guidelines and procedures.Knowledge of specialized software applications.Skill in using basic tools, equipment and procedures for repairing computers and peripheral devices.Experience in research in an information services environment.Strong interpersonal skills.Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses RequiredAssociates Degree in Computer Science, and six years of computer hardware and software support work experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.Five year experience in a customer service environment;Three years supervisory experience;Ability to pass Security Clearance with the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) within 60 days of hire.Valid Driver\'s License from the state the individual is currently residing in and have the ability to obtain a valid Alaska Driver\'s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria within 30 days of employment.THE NORTH SLOPE BOROUGH IS AN ALCOHOL AND DRUG FREE WORKPLACE.This reflects North Slope Borough\'s best effort to describe the essential functions and qualifications of the job described.
