Summary

The Lead Clinical Nurse Educator acts as a role model and coach for the Clinical Nurse Educators. The Lead Clinical Nurse Educator is a knowledgeable, clinically competent nurse who follows an articulated, strategic, and visionary philosophy in the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Education Department. The Lead Clinical Nurse Educator has specialized knowledge in nursing professional development, adult education principles, horizontal leadership and is accountable for supporting the Clinical Nurse Educators and clinical staff. The Lead Clinical Nurse Educator is accountable for patient safety and quality outcomes through high quality education and training. In his/her daily practice, they engage in environmental scanning to identify educational needs, develops and implements programs to address gaps, meets program outcomes, and assists the director in carrying out the work of the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Assists in meeting requirements of regulatory agencies including DNV, CMS and other agencies as appropriate to the service area.
  • Works directly with the Director of Clinical Education to oversee educational programs
  • Precepts and mentors new members of the Clinical Education Dept
  • Designs and oversees the implementation of the Nurse Residency Program
  • Incorporates evidence-based practice into program design
  • Collaborates with Nursing Leadership to improve the competency of all staff members and the delivery of patient care services.
  • Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team, identifies, and implements educational initiatives that support the highest quality of care delivered
  • Reviews, revises, and establishes policies and standards of care which support exemplary patient care.
  • Precepts, consults and mentors nursing leadership, clinical staff, and/or students to continue further education, participate in professional development, and pursue nursing national certification.
  • Designs and oversees the clinical orientation program
  • Documents the impact of the orientation program components on practice outcomes.
  • Links the outcome of orientation practices to patient care outcomes.
  • Encourages an environment that positively impacts patient outcomes, and supports the image of, and conveys a strong sense of, advocacy and support on behalf of staff.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary committees to design and implement educational programs to support system-wide goals.
  • Leads and coordinates AHA programming
  • Assists/provides ongoing instruction, in-services and follow-up as necessary to clinical staff
  • Works directly with new clinical staff members and their preceptors to help initiate a smooth introduction to patient care practices
  • Acts as a nurse planner for education offering ANCC contact hours
  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

Education and Experience
  • Current New Hampshire RN license required
  • Basic Life Support certification required
  • Basic Life Support Instructor certification preferred or obtained with 1 year
  • Master\'s degree strongly preferred
  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing preferred
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience in appropriate clinical area strongly preferred
  • Education experience preferred
  • Membership in professional nursing organization preferred
  • Certification in specialty area or nursing professional development preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
