Legal Assistant

Honolulu, HI, United States

Job Description

b'

A growing downtown law firm is seeking a legal assistant that will eventually transition into a paralegal position, as the candidate professionally grows and develops. Experienced candidates are welcome, but entry level applicants with office experience are very much encouraged to apply. We are willing to train someone with office skills who possesses an ambitious can-do attitude, strong work ethic, and high work standards. Candidates must show a strong interest in pursuing a law-related career through academic study and/or work experience (must be explained in resume and cover letter). For someone who is seeking to improve and professionally develop, this could be a great opportunity to learn paralegal skills while working. As our office has a strong preference for promoting from within, this is a chance to start as an assistant and grow with the firm. Candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and a strong team player. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and good computer skills are a must. Candidate should also have strong clerical skills, including typing, spelling, and grammar, and the ability to multitask and follow procedures. Passion and enthusiasm in your work and for the practice of law is absolutely essential. Duties would likely include a blend of: 1. General office work: filing, copying, mailing, scanning, reviewing documents for typographical errors, and miscellaneous office tasks as necessary. (Candidate should have these skills to start.) 2. Legal support work: drafting of legal correspondence and legal documents, organizing Discovery responses and requests, legal research, maintaining case files, tracking legal deadlines, filings with (United States District/State of Hawaii) Courts, reviewing documents for court required information, and supporting our attorneys in their work. (Candidate will develop these skills through on-the-job training) It is anticipated that a candidate will already be able to accomplish the general office work tasks with little supervision or assistance but is likely to require training for the legal support work. We are seeking full-time or semi full-time but may consider flextime or part-time for the right candidate. Compensation to depend on experience/skill level, but it is anticipated that compensation will increase as skills develop. Please respond with a cover letter and resume. Bottom line: This is a great opportunity for someone who wishes to gain experience in the legal field and is willing to work hard to expand their skill level. Must currently be located in Hawaii and be able to commute to downtown Honolulu. Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour Benefits:
