  • Serve as a Legal Assistant supporting the Office of General Counsel at the assigned Military Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) or Network.
  • Provide client in-take services to receive, screen, and analyze issues and inquiries for appropriate legal action and review.
  • Prepare attorney action folders, ensures submittals are factually complete and that information is consolidated into a format which most effectively communicates client inquiries.
  • Collect and excerpt material to be incorporated in the various reports based on knowledge of the office\'s activities and operations, with ability to locate pertinent material in correspondence files, logs, and other records.
  • Interface with other elements of the organization, other agencies and the public to obtain needed material or information.
  • Compose correspondence consolidating information into format which most effectively answers inquiries; assures material is procedurally correct; that stated facts and references are accurate.
  • As directed by the attorney, assist in the preparation of selected documents by performing basic research based on knowledge of applicable procedures.
  • Compose standardized legal forms routinely needed for specific legal actions, accepts service of legal documents, reviews them for correct form and timeliness, and annotates files to reflect receipt and response due dates or other required action.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is .Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assembling information as requested by attorneys; researching a variety of legal sources to verify information; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and/or related materials.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
