The Agriculture Legislative Coordinator will work closely with the Department of Agriculture\'s leadership to follow legislation and to communicate the agency\'s policy positions regarding the agency\'s regulatory duties and mission for agricultural promotion.

Examples of Work

Essential Duties of this position include: Conferring with the Governor\'s Policy Research Office to provide information on legislation related to the Department. Coordinating information requests from legislative staff with appropriate Department program personnel. Providing assistance to agency legal counsel as needed. Coordinating and organizing meetings with legislators and legislative staff.

Providing assistance to draft legislation, amendments, testimony, and summaries. Researching past legislative bills.

Maintaining accurate information on the status of bills. Notifying agency administrative and program officials when action or attention is required for legislation. Researching federal legislation and programs. Other duties as assigned as assigned within the scope of classification.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Post high school coursework or training in public relations/public affairs, communications, political science, or public administration and experience in policy development and implementation or assisting in drafting bills, researching statutes, and revision of rules/regulations.

PREFERRED: Experience working with the Nebraska Legislature. Legal experience or education. Agricultural experience or education. Regulatory agency experience.

OTHER: This position requires some travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver\'s license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the legislative process and ability to interpret legislative bills and statutes. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to present accurate information to internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to perform comprehensive research on a wide-range of topics.
