Midland University, located in Fremont, Nebraska, is seeking a professionally trained Librarian with innovative ideas to be a part of its team and lead the Luther Library. Reporting to the Director of the Academic Core Experience, the Head Librarian is responsible for helping our students and faculty become information literate in a digital world. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, experienced, and innovative, academic professional with research, collection management, information literacy program development, and customer service skills.

The Head Librarian provides leadership for operational aspects of Luther Library, an academic library, including: budget development and management, reference and research services and development, and management of physical and online collections. The Head Librarian participates in the continued evaluation, selection, testing and implementation of hardware and software tools, technologies and services that enhance the library and academic program support services.

Qualifications:

  • An earned Master\'s degree in Library Science, Library & Information Science, Education or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Applicants with required work experience in the last year of a graduate program will be considered.
  • Three or more years of library related professional experience.
  • Knowledge of library instruction practices and ability to deliver effective & engaging instruction
  • Familiarity with a broad range of print and electronic research tools and databases.
  • Expertise in information literacy standards and current industry trends with the ability to create engaging presentations, workshops and online materials for use by students, faculty and staff.
  • Experience selecting and developing reference and circulating materials, including books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, eBooks, and other electronic resources. Includes tracking expenditures for an academic library and meeting collection budget targets.
  • Ability to develop and deliver quality results on-time.
  • Previous work with Canvas, Blackboard or other online Learning Management System.
  • Skilled at working independently.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and experience cultivating and sustaining collaborative relationships with diverse constituencies including: students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders.
  • A passion for excellence and innovation in an academic setting.
  • Familiarity with American Library Association, Association of College & Research Libraries, and academic library consortiums.
