George Washington Health & Rehabilitation is seeking for a Licensed Practical Nurse who Renders good nursing care and assistance to patients or residents assigned to the unit, assists in supervising auxiliary personnel, responsible for helping maintain accurate patient records according to nursing home policy.

• RESPONSIBILITIES: Know your Fire, Safety, and Disaster Manual.
• Assist in supervising or participating in all activities of nursing service to insure good patient care.
• When in charge of a unit assume the full responsibilities of the charge nurse.
• Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patient.
• Prepares equipment and assists the physician during treatments or examinations
• Administers prescribed medications, orally and by injections.
• Assists the physician in changing dressings, cleaning wounds and incisions.
• Takes vital signs to detect deviations from normal and gage progress of the patient
• Observes, records and reports to supervisor or physician, patients\xe2\x80\x99 condition, reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
• Maintains patients\xe2\x80\x99 medical record on nursing observation and action taken, such as medications and treatments given, reactions, tests, intake, and emission of liquids and solids, temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Records nursing needs of patient on nursing care plan to assure continuity of care
• Observes emotional stability of patients, express interest in their progress and (prepares them for continuing care after discharge).
• Explains procedures and treatments ordered to gain patients\xe2\x80\x99 cooperation and allay apprehension.
• Must report to on-coming nurse at the change of each shift of duty. Also, must check narcotics with on-coming nurse, if applicable. Assumes responsibility for promoting good relationships among co-workers, other departments, patients their families and visitors. Be conservative of supplies and equipment.

EDUCATION: Licensed Practical Nurse \xe2\x80\x93 Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Current registration with the Virginia State Board of Nursing and Maryland.

EXPERIENCE

At least two years of License Practical Nurse experience in Skill Nursing Home LTC and health care accounting (Preferred)
