The (HASLC), is a federally funded Special Purpose Government Agency, created to provide rent subsidies, and promote affordable housing for low-income persons residing in . is the largest public housing authority in the state of Utah and the largest provider of Affordable Housing in the Salt Lake Valley. We currently assist over 10,000 individuals, who are seniors, persons with disabilities, children, previously homeless, and households with minimal income, a place to call home.

General Purpose as Life Assistance Specialist

The Life Assistance Specialist provides individualized case management services to participating households to achieve economic self-sufficiency, stability, and resiliency to reduce dependence on rental subsidies by building partnerships in the community with other social service organizations to help participants obtain jobs and services such as childcare, transportation, adult education, job training, and other resources.

Essential Functions of Life Assistance Specialist * Plans, implements, directs, and evaluates various self-sufficiency type programs.
  • Regularly assesses the objectives of each household through goal setting, progress, and referrals in accessing appropriate community agencies.
  • Steadily determine eligibility and qualifying participants for programs; recruit and process new enrollment; conduct informational sessions; assist with developing customer goals following regulations and policies.
  • Coordinate and plan regular events such as training, workshops, and success events.
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials.
  • Administers the preparation and maintenance of program materials, reports, and records such as assessments, basic financial records, activity reports, and case management records.
Requirements:

Desired Skills & Experience of Life Assistance Specialist
  • The equivalent of a high school education and at least one year of college courses in sociology, social work, or related field and two years of experience working in education, job training, housing programs, social work, self-sufficiency, or related work.
  • Maintain knowledge of successful national and local efforts to assist low-income families in achieving economic self-sufficiency and a better quality of life.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and direct activities and services; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish comfortable and effective relationships with others; secure the cooperation of others; successfully work with and serve a diverse local community.
  • Established characteristics of initiative and resourcefulness; tact; courtesy; sensitivity to the needs of residents.
  • Basic understanding of casework practice, including the ability to do a thorough assessment, goals, plans, and limited crisis intervention.
  • Skillfulness in utilizing existing community resources and linking households with the services that best meet their needs.
  • Computer literate. Proficient in MS Office 365 or related software.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate professionally with persons from all socio-economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a highly independent role and as a team player.
