Job Description


Basic Function

The Logistics Category Supervisor will supervise department personnel activities for one or more logistics services categories (truck, rail, marine, terminals/warehousing, and/or 3PLs). The Logistics Category Supervisor will facilitate six-sigma strategic sourcing process to execute the category plans to leverage volumes for the best total cost, provides analysis and data to support holistic approach to supplier/carrier selection - safety, capacity, service, cost, innovation and flexibility, and work with key suppliers/carriers - performance, risk and relationship. The Logistics Category Supervisor will support sourcing events end-to-end, tracks savings, and performance management.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Manages rate/pricing/spend analysis requests for assigned categories.
  • Leads vendor qualification process for assigned categories.
  • Manages and supervises assigned employees and activities pertinent to assigned categories to achieve maximum productivity, cost effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Supervises department to ensure timely responses to rate and cost analysis requests.
  • Assists manager to prepare contracts and/or pricing sheets, as well as edit exhibits as needed, providing all revisions in a timely manner.
  • Reviews freight invoices for accuracy and routes to manager for approvalMaintains positive and productive working relationship within department and with other departments.
  • Maintains close communication with Manager and other key personnel, keeping all informed of conditions, activities and trends in area of responsibility which may have an impact on the business .
  • Ensures vendor set up and ensures rates/routes are maintained and accurate in all systems.
  • Supports supplier/carrier relationship management process, supplier/carrier performance reviews, and supplier/carrier development initiatives. Identifies supplier/carrier risks and category implications.
  • Conducts industry and market research to understand assigned categories and creates reporting for category managers and business stakeholders.
  • Provides savings tracking activities and reports realized savings on a continuous base; ensures realized savings tie back to departmental budgets.
  • Researches and extracts spend data from HollyFrontier systems and creates meaningful reporting to identify trends, performance metrics and issues.
  • Assists in the design and interface with the business of multi-year category management plans.
  • Works with technical resources to plan and test system reporting and ensure data is accurate and timely.
  • Partners with key internal/external stakeholders to support logistics systems roadmap.
  • Assist in the planning, design, and execution of strategic sourcing activities; facilitates the bidding (RFI/RFP/RFQ), supplier selection, and negotiation process.
  • Leverages use of Transportation Management Systems and related technologies and infrastructure to drive business value.
  • Validates and monitors price adjustments and communicates changes to the affected stakeholders.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in Logistics, Procurement, Transportation, Finance, or Supply Chain is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two years experience in oil and gas refining, chemicals, energy, and/or heavy manufacturing industry is preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor\xc3\x83\xc2\xa2\xc3\x82\xc2\x80\xc3\x82\xc2\x99s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree, is required.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Knowledge of logistics spend categories. Financial management and legal experience with complex contracts. Experience with SAP and/ or logistics systems (TMS, Freight Audit and Payment, Sourcing). Prior experience managing one or more employees preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Responisble for supervising employees.

Work Conditions

Office based with travel required up to 20% by land and air with occasional visits into a refinery environment. Subject to varying road and weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., perceiving color differences. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
