Its an exciting time in pet food! Post Holdings, Inc., recently announced an agreement to acquire Perfection Pet Foods, a leading manufacturer of private label and co-manufactured pet food and baked treats. The transaction is anticipated to close by the end of the calendar year in 2023. This role is part of the Perfection Pet Foods team of 250+ employees who will soon join the Post family to help grow the pet food business.
Location Description

Visalia, CA is home to 360,000 square feet of manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, and office space. Approximately 250 employees work here, utilizing the latest technologies and systems, capable of producing extensive, diverse, and innovative pet food products. Visalia is in Californias San Joaquin Valley and the gateway to Sequoia National Park, part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It also has a minor league baseball team, the Visalia California Oaks, and several colleges and universities.
Responsibilities

The position of Maintenance Technician is responsible for maximizing the uptime and effective throughput of plant processing equipment from receipt of raw ingredients through the palletizing and warehousing of finished product. Ideal candidate for this position will have experience troubleshooting issues and maintaining typical food manufacturing equipment. This is a collaborative position that works extremely closely with the production department to help determine gaps in training as well as ideas for overall process improvement.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing maintenance in all areas of the plant on a scheduled or emergency basis as directed by work orders and/or direction from supervisor and Shift Lead.
  • Mechanical/Electrical Repairs for processing equipment standard to the Food Processing Industry
  • Programmable Logic Control (PLC) Communication and Automation Systems
  • Facilities Maintenance such as Air Handling Systems, HVAC Systems, and Building Security
  • Plant Utility Systems; compressed air systems, steam generation systems, and power distribution systems
  • Working knowledge of Common Industrial Components
  • Respond to unscheduled/emergency work orders in an expedient and urgent manner
  • Conduct root cause of equipment failure and develop course of action to prevent future failures with direction from management
  • Document work completed in Maintenance CMMS System
  • Communicate directly with Production Department to coordinate maintenance and repair work
  • Help develop and implement the plant preventative maintenance program
  • Complete and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Daily Routine List (DRL), HACCP procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Compliance.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Competencies:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability necessary to perform this job successfully:

Education/Experience:
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with industrial dryers, hammer mills, extruders, and bucket elevators preferred
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Working knowledge of boilers, PLC programming, and three phase electrical systems
  • Three to five (3-5) years industrial maintenance experience.
Skills:
  • Understanding of plant operational processes and procedures, including routine and emergency start-up and shutdown practices
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently and as a team
  • Systematic Troubleshooting Skills
  • Excellent Communication Skills - ability to have technical discussions with non-technical employees
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to and including 60 pounds.
  • Frequently climb ladders and work at heights of 100 feet
  • Frequently work in elevated temperatures while following acceptable safety restrictions.
Environment:
  • Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts/machinery.
  • Regularly exposed to major amounts of dust.
  • Regularly exposed to moderate to severe noise levels.
  • Regularly exposed to outdoor/uncontrolled weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to chemicals used in the manufacturing process.

Pay: The pay range for this position is up to $33 an hour
