Purpose

Avangrid Renewables is seeking a Manager - OSW (Offshore Wind) Environmental Affairs to support the Company\'s efforts to develop and permit well-sited offshore wind projects with minimal environmental impact. The Manager - OSW Environmental Affairs will be part of the US Offshore Development Team, reporting to the Director of Environment, and work with colleagues worldwide as part of IBERDROLA Global Offshore Environmental Team.

The successful Candidate will support a variety of activities within the offshore wind environmental affairs arena, including environmental surveys, permitting, community outreach, and engineering support. Specifically, this position will have a focus on the science, technology, policy, sustainability and environmental aspects of project permitting and development.

The Manager - OSW Environmental Affairs will also be responsible for developing and managing Avangrid\'s US offshore wind sustainability initiatives and ensuring that its operations are in line with Company\'s sustainability goals, specifically:

  • Net zero greenhouse gas emissions for scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and scope 3 by 2040
  • Net biodiversity positive by 2030
  • Integration of circular economy into projects
These are ambitious goals that Avangrid has communicated to investors and will require fundamental shifts in how projects are designed, constructed and operated. The Manager - OSW Environmental Affairs will be responsible for developing and implementing sustainability strategies, identifying and addressing environmental, social, and economic impacts, and promoting sustainability throughout the organization. The role will include leading technical inputs into industry workstreams, research, and academic partnerships to influence and progress the offshore wind industry\'s response to decarbonisation, circular economy and biodiversity challenges and opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical, biological, ecological, and environmental expertise in support of offshore wind project development activities.
  • Support federal and state permitting activities and manage permit- and HSE-related compliance tasks.
  • Assist with the execution of multi-year environmental survey programs, including the procurement and contracting of consultant/contractor services.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with inter-disciplinary internal and external teams.
  • Participate in local, state, regional, and national environmental working groups to identify and address key environmental challenges and concerns associated with developing renewable energy projects in the offshore environment.
  • Assist with collaborative partnerships with outside organizations on environmental initiatives.
  • Develop and implement sustainability strategies to ensure the company\'s operations are in line with its sustainability goals.
  • Identify and assess the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the company\'s operations and develop plans to mitigate these impacts.
  • Promote sustainability throughout the organization by creating awareness and understanding of sustainability principles and practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate sustainability into business decision making and operations.
  • Participate as core team member of offtake bid teams, responsible for leading partnership development, bid writing, and outreach efforts.
  • Develop and implement sustainability metrics and reporting systems to measure progress towards sustainability goals.
  • Coordinate and complete quarterly and annual sustainability reporting for the US offshore business.
  • Develop working knowledge of the latest technical, regulatory and commercial developments in the specialist discipline that has the potential to reduce cost and/or risk, and improve environmental performance
  • Stay up-to-date with sustainability trends and best practices, and provide recommendations for improvements, in particular on actions to reduce cost and/or risk, and improve environmental performance
  • Represent the company in sustainability forums and engage with stakeholders on sustainability issues.
  • Assist with collaborative partnerships with outside organizations on environmental initiatives.
Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s degree in environmental studies/science, natural resources, biology, ecology, sustainability, environmental science, or a related field (graduate degree preferred)
  • At least eight years of experience permitting energy and/or transmission projects, preferably offshore projects, in the Northeastern
  • Strong understanding of environmental and social impact assessments, sustainability principles, sustainability reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on results.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Able to adapt and work in a fast-paced working environment and responsive to change.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and sustainability reporting tools and databases.

Our Selection Process
