Middle River Aerostructure Systems is a world-leading manufacturer of commercial aerostructures and Nacelle System. These include thrust reverses (the braking system on a jet engine), engine nacelle components and specialized aerostructures. Job Summary
Manufacturing/Process Engineers are the bridge between the design team and the production floor. As a Manager of the Composite Bonding Process Engineering team, you will manage the development of new and drive improvements into existing composite structures that are manufactured in the composite bonding area. Managers take ownership of the structures the Composite Bonding MEs are responsible for and are able to communicate to business leaders as well the Bonding Operations leaders/Supervisors who are responsible for the manufacture of the products. Managers also provide guidance and act as a sounding board for the Composite Bonding MEs and/or the other functional groups to help resolve technical and production problems.
Job Responsibilities:
Manage the Composite Bonding ME team and lead activities that are associated withing the scope of that team which are inclusive of the following:
1. Develop/revise new and existing engineering specifications, processes and procedures that support the manufacturing of carbon fiber reinforced composite structures:
\xc2\xb7 Process Specifications
\xc2\xb7 Material Specifications
\xc2\xb7 Tooling Specifications
\xc2\xb7 Tooling Design, manufacturing and Geometry Buy-Off via modeling software
\xc2\xb7 Production/Manufacturing Planning
\xc2\xb7 Develop detailed cost models and provide Cost Out concepts
2. Own and drive the introduction of new products into the manufacturing environment. This includes creating and/or reviewing the following aspects of NPI designs:
\xc2\xb7 Manufacturability of design concepts
\xc2\xb7 Cost estimates and ROI of new concepts and designs to be automated
\xc2\xb7 Develop tooling concepts and production methodology for automation cells
\xc2\xb7 Support of business reviews and provide technical insight into manufacturing.
Skills:
1. Critical Thinking:
\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate leadership skills in managing, empowering team members and driving business KPIs into the Composite Bonding ME team.
\xc2\xb7 Troubleshoot complex engineering issues that are affecting part quality, cost and/or function (Machine to tooling interface/Tool to part Interface/Part to Assembly Interface)
\xc2\xb7 Develop engineering metrics around productivity, part flow and report out to the business
\xc2\xb7 Incorporate lean manufacturing methods and use Six Sigma data analysis tools
2. Communication:
\xc2\xb7 Create and employ effective engineering documentation around product development and cost estimating for new bid and proposals
\xc2\xb7 Effectively liaison with design/analysis engineering, procurement, union representatives and business leadership
\xc2\xb7 Create engineering documentation in support of manufacturing activities and new equipment design, purchase and installation. Requirements:
\xc2\xb7 Must have at least a Bachelor\'s degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant engineering discipline
\xc2\xb7 10 or more years of experience in manufacturing engineering relating to composite structures and or other aerospace structures
\xc2\xb7 Prior experience in leading people and/or engineering teams
\xc2\xb7 Experience in manufacturing and engineering technology
\xc2\xb7 Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods
