SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Manufacturing and Planning Manager is responsible for establishing, managing, reviewing, and maintaining the master production schedule to ensure the timely manufacture of finished goods. This role prioritizes customer service, inventory turn goals, and effective utilization of available capacity, both internally and outsourced. The position supervises planning and order management personnel and ensures that all operations adhere to established specifications, schedules, and budgets to achieve maximum quality and customer service standards.
This position requires close collaboration with plant operations management, manufacturing floor leads, sales, product engineering, and accounting. The ideal candidate will analyze data from multiple sources and make timely, informed decisions to balance plant level loading, customer demand, and inventory optimization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Apply Lean Manufacturing principles in operations planning.
2. Develop and manage the master production schedule from customer sales orders and forecasts to ensure on-time product shipment.
3. Maintain master schedules to ensure adequate internal plant capacity and personnel resources to meet production requirements and customer delivery dates.
4. Identify and address capacity constraints that may impact customer service or manufacturing efficiency.
5. Communicate schedule changes proactively to relevant departments to ensure materials and manufacturing resources align with production changes.
6. Notify appropriate personnel of material shortages or potential disruptions to customer delivery commitments.
7. Coordinate and prioritize production schedules to optimize customer service levels.
8. Lead daily production meetings and oversee follow-up actions to support manufacturing operations.
9. Collaborate with IT to develop reports and tools for effective decision-making.
10. Work with buyers to implement consignments, JIT, SMI, KanBan, and other stocking and replenishment programs.
11. Manage and implement internal KanBan programs, regularly reviewing parts usage and customer commitments.
12. Develop and implement shop floor control procedures to maintain accurate inventory records.
13. Oversee production and materials transitions between facilities.
14. Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales to ensure smooth transitions for engineering changes.
15. Provide coaching and training to direct reports.
16. Work proficiently with MRPII systems.
17. Develop relationships with suppliers for purchased components in collaboration with the Supply Chain team.
18. Facilitate SOP and Scorecard meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in business, operations management, or a related field with 5-7 years of directly related experience; OR an associate degree with 10+ years of progressively responsible experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
MBA and/or CPIM certification preferred.
Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and a demonstrated ability to champion lean initiatives in operations planning.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret business and technical documents, flow charts, budget information, and procedural manuals.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization using diplomacy and professionalism.
SCOPE:
Ensures customer delivery commitments are met through effective plant resource scheduling.
Works independently with minimal supervision.
Directly supervises planning and production inventory control (PIC) staff specific to the assigned manufacturing plant.
Minimal travel required.
