General Information

At the Port of Portland, we use everything we have - our three airports, four marine terminals, five business parks, and all the resources, expertise, and experience behind them - to move with purpose, connecting people with powerful opportunities and creating value for our region. At Terminal 6, a multi-use terminal, you\'ll see containers with household goods and breakbulk being sent on their way. The Marine Maintenance Electricians help keep commerce moving by providing electrical maintenance for container cranes and, the electrical and power distribution systems at Port marine facilities.

If you are a Journeyman Electrician licensed in Arkansas, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Utah or Wyoming please let us know when you submit your application. The State of Oregon will grant reciprocity from these six states and you may qualify for a reciprocal license. If selected for this position, the Port of Portland will cover the cost of your reciprocal license application fee.

Summary of Essential Responsibilities

  • Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Perform maintenance of electrical motor and control systems on Port container cranes.
  • Conduct maintenance of electrical distribution systems ranging in voltages from 120V branch circuits to 12.5KV substation power.
  • Trouble-shoot electrical and electronic controls, including relay logic, and PLC programming.
  • Install and start-up new equipment, associated feeders, branch circuits and controls.
  • Repair or replace any and all electrical power and lighting systems at Marine facilities, as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair large DC motors and controls.
  • Familiar with security systems, including entry and camera systems.
Minimum Requirements/Skills and Abilities
  • Oregon State General Journeyman license at time of hire is required.
  • Experience and/or course work in technical electronics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of PLC based control systems is preferred; specifically ABB/General Electric is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the following:
  • Variable frequency drives
  • Closed-circuit television systems and camera controls
  • Engine powered generators
  • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
  • Comfortable working at heights in excess of 30 feet.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed.
  • Maintain a valid state drivers\' license is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) from the Federal government is required. All licensing fees will be reimbursed by the Port of Portland.
