As an Editorial Intern at Marvel Comics, you\'ll be at the heart of comic book production, working closely with our Marvel editors under the guidance of our Assistant Editor.
This part-time internship offers invaluable mentorship from our team of experienced editors and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the various departments within Marvel Publishing. It\'s more than just an internship; it\'s your gateway to an extraordinary, hands-on journey in the world of comic book creation.
What You Will Do
Every single day, you\'ll immerse yourself in the intricate world of your favorite Marvel comics. You\'ll play a pivotal role in the comic creation process, from collecting reference materials and conducting research to formatting scripts, crafting enticing recap pages, and meticulously ensuring that every lettered comic is flawless. But the adventure doesn\'t end there. You\xe2\x80\x99ll also have the chance to review color and line art, provide input on lettering placement, and gain hands-on experience in offering script notes.
Responsibilities and projects include:
Work on Periodical Comics Books:
Script and Lettering: Build scripts for our letterers and guide lettering balloon placement.
Project Coordination: Collaborate with freelancers and various departments to ensure projects meet their schedules.
Editorial Support: Assist editors with administrative tasks, such as answering questions, gathering references, and monitoring deadlines.
Collaborate with the Production Team:
Production Assistance: Support various aspects of production, including research, script analysis, and post-production tasks.
Idea Sharing: Contribute creative ideas and insights during team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Strong Writing Skills: Proficiency in writing is essential for crafting engaging recap and solicitation text.
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail is necessary to contribute to the layout of print comics and ensure quality throughout the production process.
Self-Motivation: Being self-motivated is key to excelling in your role.
Time Management: Efficient time management is crucial to meet deadlines and fulfill your responsibilities.
Adaptability: Be ready to take on various related duties as required.
Microsoft Office Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is a prerequisite.
Preferred Qualifications
Comic Book Enthusiast: A genuine passion for comic books and a deep knowledge of the comic book industry is a plus.
Experience in Comic Book Publishing: Experience in the world of comic book publishing is an additional asset.
Narrative-Based Media Experience: Preferred candidates have prior experience in narrative-based media, showcasing their understanding of storytelling principles and content development.
Editorial Experience: Previous editorial experience, whether in a professional setting or through relevant coursework, is highly valued as it demonstrates your familiarity with the editorial process.
Education
Undergraduate students in their junior or senior year in (or recently graduated within the past six months) pursuing a bachelor\'s degree in Publishing, English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Communications or related field.
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
Must possess unrestricted work authorization

The approximate dates of this internship are January 2024 through June 2024.
Candidate must be available to work part-time hours (approximately 21-29 hours per week) during normal business hours Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday.
This internship is a primarily on-site position. You must be able to provide own housing and reliable transportation in the New York, NY area. The pay rate for this role in New York is $18 per hour.
