DescriptionCome join our team in the Facilities and Operations Department at Sullivan County! We are looking for an energetic, conscientious, and detail-oriented person who enjoys making a difference and takes pride in his or her work. The Master Electrician is a skilled position responsible for the physical maintenance and repairs of the County\'s electrical systems. It\'s an exciting time to join our team as the County in in the middle of a $75M renovation project that will modernize one of our facilities.Master Electrician responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Physical maintenance and repairs of electrical systems including day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and replace electrical components to ensure systems function safely and efficiently.
  • Complete life safety required inspections and maintenance to ensure County facilities are in compliance with regulations.
  • Performs a variety of other maintenance duties to support the overall success of the Facilities Department.
A candidate for this position should have at least a high school diploma, or equivalent, and at least one (1) year documentable work experience as a Master Electrician. Valid NH Master Electrician license and valid NH/VT driver\'s license are required.Examples of Duties
  • Test, install, and maintain complicated, computerized, commercial electrical equipment and distribution systems including fire alarms, emergency power systems, security, communications, and energy management systems according to the National Electrical Code, Fire Codes, and manufacturer\'s recommendations.
  • Disassembles, repairs, reassembles, or replaces defective electrical equipment such as plugs, switches, wiring, receptacles, controls, breakers, panels, tools, appliances, and other electrical devices using appropriate tools, testing equipment, and service manuals.
  • Regularly inspect and evaluate electrical and electronic equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely. Follow recommended maintenance schedule for maintenance of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, or replace motors, controls, variable frequency drives, lighting control systems, motorized shade systems, laundry, kitchen, elevators, and other electrical equipment.
  • Coordinate and inspect work done by electrical contractors working within the County. Ensure all electrical work is completed and spaces are left in accordance with all fire, safety, and electrical codes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems through knowledge of electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Respond to urgent or emergency calls, as assigned, based on the current On-Call Program administered by the Assistant Director of Facilities.
  • Provide assistance to department personnel, as assigned, by completing work with and assisting other trades.
  • Provide all required and appropriate documentation to document work needed, work completed, and to maintain an accurate record of as-built conditions. Utilize computerized maintenance management system to manage work to be completed, to document work as it is completed, and to account for parts that have been used. Prioritize assigned work to ensure accurate and timely completion.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. As authorized, order and procure electrical materials. Recommend procurement of supplies, tools, materials, and equipment for procurements outside authorization limits.
  • Provide excellent customer service to create a safe, comfortable environment in which to work and live. Act in a professional manner and participate as an active team member with all employees, vendors, residents, inmates, and members of the public.
  • Adhere to all standards, regulations, policies & procedures, and codes of conduct.
Typical QualificationsA candidate in this position should have a high school diploma, at least four (4) years documentable work experience as an Apprentice/Journeyman Electrician, and at least one (1) year of documentable work as a Master Electrician in commercial electrical contracting, installation, and maintenance. A State of New Hampshire Master Electrician License is required. Candidate must be able to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work. Candidate must possess a valid New Hampshire or Vermont driver\'s license.A candidate should have considerable knowledge of standard practices, tools, materials and equipment of the electrical trade; considerable knowledge of the provisions of the national and state electrical codes, and of applicable county rules and regulations; ability to read, understand and interpret to others complex wiring diagrams, plans and blueprints and technical specifications; to test and detect faulty materials, wiring and equipment; to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; and understanding of the potential occupational hazards connected with electrical work and the safety standards and practices which should be applied.A candidate should be detail-oriented, dependable, a problem solver, and a good communicator. A successful person will work well under pressure without sacrificing quality, have strong teamwork skills, and successfully adapt to changing priorities.A candidate must be able: to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to perform various building maintenance tasks; to operate trucks and small tractors; to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with others, such as the general public, co-workers, and other department personnel; to carry out details of work without close supervision; to organize and prioritize tasks to ensure accuracy and timely completion; and to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing. A candidate must be able to respond with appropriate haste and prudent judgment when working with inmates and in emergency situations. Candidate may be required to be on call for weekends, evenings, and nights.Supplemental InformationShift Differential:
  • $2.00/hour - 2nd shift
  • $2.00/hour - 3rd shift
  • 20% of base rate of pay for all Weekend shifts
