SALARY RANGE: $86,985.60 - $130,478.40

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Key Responsibilities

Will work as a member of a small team supporting scientists, engineers, technicians, and National Laboratory customers in building, testing, and fielding complex diagnostic systems that utilize the following skills: designing, fabricating, testing, characterizing, and fielding unique and innovative diagnostic systems involving state-of-the-art digital imaging systems, multi-frame imaging systems, visible and stereo imaging systems, IR imaging systems; optical velocimetry systems such as PDV, MPDV, and BLR; complex fiber-optic assemblies, custom fiber-optic sensors and arrays, custom fiber-optic probes; optical lens and relay systems; and radiometry and pyrometry systems. * Will be required to generate detailed documentation for designs, fabrication and assembly, field support one-lines and checklists, and submission of work order requests and work instructions as part of the execution of work. Must be able to work under pressure in support of deliverables that have agreed upon delivery dates; must be able to efficiently plan and organize work, must possess strong communication skills and be compatible with working in a small team environment; and must be able to develop strong effective relationships with team members, managers, and customers.
  • Will work closely with engineers to identify and resolve electrical and mechanical design issues.
  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgement in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approach to maintenance, operations, or testing.
  • As a PCB designer, must be able to verify that PCBs will work under design conditions.
  • Plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment and experience in the application and substantial adaptation of operations techniques. Devises new approaches to operations problems.
  • May provide maintenance, operations, or testing direction to subordinate engineers, technicians, crafts, or others as assigned for specific projects or tasks.
  • Performs work that involves conventional practices but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting requirements, unsuitability of conventional methods, or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Assists with the preparation of operations manuals.
  • Plans, guides, or prepares administrative and technical documents as required for maintenance, operations, or testing.
  • Coordinates project assignments among engineering, construction, specialty staff groups, clients, and vendors.
Qualifications

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Associate degree plus at least 18 years\xe2\x80\x99 progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 20 years\xe2\x80\x99 progressive related experience.
  • Other desirable skills are: strong knowledge of electronics, instrumentation chassis assembly and construction, soldering techniques, and knowledge of DOE and industry workmanship standards, hands-on use of basic and powered hand tools, and a thorough knowledge of laboratory instrumentation such as digital storage oscilloscopes, digital delay generators, high-bandwidth fiber links, and other electronic test and measurement instrumentation; a strong working knowledge of computer programming is desirable.
  • Must be willing and able to mentor/train less experienced personnel.
  • Must be able to work with minimum or no supervision.
  • The primary work location will be at the Los Alamos Operations located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
  • Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver\'s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in , \xe2\x80\x9cWorkplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,\xe2\x80\x9d will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required.
