Job Description


JOB SUMMARY:The primary purpose of the Mechanic position is to analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild, and maintain automobiles, trucks, and construction equipment with the utmost regard for safety.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Evaluate information from written or verbal sources regarding vehicle/heavy equipment problems, analyze malfunctions, identify necessary parts to perform repair, repair/rebuild, and test equipment following repair.
  • Maintain automobiles, trucks, vans, and construction equipment.
  • Track and update maintenance schedule.
  • Document maintenance performed and parts or materials used.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Replace defective engines and subassemblies such as transmissions.
  • Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Weld broken parts and structural members.
  • Tune automotive vehicle engines to ensure efficient operation.
  • Clean and maintain test equipment and recording devices.
  • Complete Safety Inspections of vehicles and equipment and perform DOT inspections.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness, in a safe manner and have a good attitude towards safety and willing to complete JHA\'s.
  • Assist in shop maintenance and cleaning daily.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five to ten years of construction equipment repairs on Cat & Case equipment.
  • Five or more years working with hydraulic systems.
  • Five or more years working on electrical systems.
  • Proven experience performing work that requires mechanical aptitude.
  • ASE certified in Tests A1 - A8 or equivalent education.
  • Must be self-directed, able to perform in a multitask environment, and able to effectively contribute individually, or as part of a team.
  • Must possess Class A Alaska Commercial Driver\'s License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR\'s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, background, and driving record screening.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively interact with individuals within and outside of ENSTAR. Specifically, the ability to communicate with others to evaluate problems and to explain vehicle/equipment status in an understandable manner.
  • Ability, knowledge, and agility necessary to complete installations and/or repairs.
  • Use diagnostic scanners such as -Cat ET, Ford IDS and GM GDS software.
  • Ability to learn and understand ENSTAR\'s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain skills as technology advances.

  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers, and management.
  • Must maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
  • Must adhere to ENSTAR\'s policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.
