FARO is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work out of our Americas office in Lake Mary, Florida.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manufacturing and cost oriented development and mechanical design of assemblies and individual parts

Creation of CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks and management in PDM and PLM system

Support of projects from concept to productions in close coordination with related departments and vendors

Selection of material and standard components

Conducts feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA software

Supports manufacture of prototypes both internally and together with vendors

Conducts and supports testing of prototypes to ensure design requirements are met

Building BOMs for manufacturing and assembly

Guide and assist operations with creation of assembly instructions

Design and/or oversees development and testing of product packaging

Continuously improve mechanical designs for performance, quality, cost reduction and manufacturability using FEA, tolerance analysis, DFMEA and similar tools

Keep up to date with state of the art of mechanical engineering technology and best practices.

Develop and document project technical requirements

Negotiates and finds solutions with vendors regarding part manufacturability and availability problems

Negotiate with suppliers to optimize designs and purchase prototype parts

Provide suggestions for product improvements at part level

Create reports for stakeholders when required

Assist onboarding process and integration of new mechanical engineering hires

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in technical / engineering discipline or equivalent industrial experience.

Deep knowledge of mechanical design tools (3D modeling, drawings, GD&T)

Basic understanding of finite element methods and thermal analysis

Ability to design parts for optimal manufacturing method (machining, injection molding, casting, etc.)

Ability to design pieces of the application
