Job Description

: Position Purpose. Medical Director shall be responsible for the overall operation of the center and program. While there may be several associate directors with specific interests or focus in limited areas of Mechanical Circulatory Support (\xe2\x80\x9cMCS\xe2\x80\x9d) care, Medical Director will be responsible for assuring appropriate specialist training and performance, directing quality improvement meetings and projects, assuring proper and valid data submission to Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (\xe2\x80\x9cELSO\xe2\x80\x9d), and will also be responsible for the credentialing of other physicians who care for MCS patients or who manage the MCS circuit. Medical Director is expected to collaborate, communicate, and build relationships with all members of the healthcare team as appropriate.Essential Job Duties.

• Coverage: ELSO requires a MCS-trained physician who will provide 24-hour on-call coverage for the MCS program along with other appropriately assigned physician partners.
• Training: Each ECMO center should have a well-defined program for ECMO physician and staff training, certification, and re-certification. This program should include:

Didactic lectures;Laboratory training with the ECMO equipment;Bedside training; andA defined system for testing proficiency of the team members. * Meetings: Medical Director will chair and organize the agenda for monthly programmatic review in accordance with local Hospital, ICU and Intermountain operations meetings. In addition, Medical Director may attend quality assurance meetings in accordance with program and Hospital guidelines.

• Program Effectiveness: Medical Director will identify and address barriers to the care of the ECMO patients (i.e., referral, patient flow and patient care) to ensure a successful integrated approach to the provision of this critical treatment to those patients.

Education must be obtained through an ACGME or AOA accredited institution, will be verified.ABMS or equivalent AOA Board Certification in Critical Care.

Active Utah Medical Licensure, or in process of obtaining licensure, is required.

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.At least three years of clinical experience working in a critical care setting.

Three years of experience leading successful improvement in clinical settings.

Three years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.

Experience with change management with the ability to provide leadership in the adaptation and implementation of new processes and /or technology that enhance safety.
