Job Responsibilities

With our Agency\'s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Mental Health Professional II, working under the general supervision of the Program Manager, you will provide psychoeducational and community-based programming for patients assigned, preparing for discharge. Coordinates daily services for patients entering the community and preparing for community living. Facilitates and Co-Facilitates groups as needed. Uses an evidence-based curriculum along with hands on demonstration and training, and incorporates a community-based program with daily programming in the Dr. Versie J. Bellamy (VJB) Learning Center and the Treatment Mall. Work evenings, holidays and weekends as assigned.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitates and Co-facilitates groups and provides active treatment hours (20 weekly) by conducting psycho-educational groups and individual sessions to assigned patients. Outlines daily curriculum, plans and implements weekly and monthly programming. Conducts group in the Dr. VJB Leaming Center, Treatment Mall and in the lodges. Tracks all patient group attendance and submits group attendance daily.
  • Documents, using the FIRPP format, adds goal, interventions, registers group in Avatar to the patient\'s treatment plan, and completes progress notes within 24 hours. Completes treatment plan update goal and intervention progress prior to treatment plan review date. Completes all annual assessments on caseload prior to annual admission date. Ensures documentation is completed timely, maintaining a 95% on all monthly audits.
  • Serves on Discharge Readiness Program and a committee. Plans and implements monthly programs to assist patients ready to enter the community. Provides educational programming and community-based resources to assist patients in recovery.
  • Completes all annual mandatory training timely.
  • Maintains a valid SC driver\'s license.
  • Attends all monthly meetings.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirement: A master\'s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field and professional experience in a mental health, human service or social service program.

Preferred Qualifications

A doctorate in clinical psychology from an accredited program; or 60 credit hours of post graduate credit towards a doctorate in clinical psychology from an accredited program and experience in the practice of clinical psychology subsequent to one (I) year of graduate work (30 credit hours) in psychology; or a master\'s degree in clinical psychology or counseling psychology from an accredited program in psychology and two (2) years of experience in the practice of psychology subsequent to the degree; or possession of a license in SC as a psychologist or professional counselor.

Additional Comments

The selected candidate must have the ability to move freely around the campus to complete duties. Must have efficient computer skills to complete duties. This position requires an individual to be willing and available to work one (1) evening per week, and one (1) weekend (Saturday and Sunday) per month. Physical requirements involve a great deal of walking on uneven pavement, bending, stooping, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling and lifting up to fifty (50) lbs. (may require more in emergency situations).
