What You Will Be Doing
The Division of Mining, Land & Water is recruiting for a Natural Resource Manager 1 located in the Southeast Regional Lands Office in Juneau. This position will manage a great team of professionals that prepare decisions for public and private applicants, which results in an authorization of land uses in Southeast Alaska. While the team is primarily responsible for adjudicating permits and material sale contracts, they also manage general state land, which includes addressing trespass and general use of state land. We are looking for a collaborative and positive team leader with strong interpersonal and management skills with an interest in public land management.
Mission and Culture
This position is housed in the Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR\'s mission is to \xe2\x80\x9cdevelop, conserve, and maximize the use of Alaska\'s natural resources consistent with the public interest.\xe2\x80\x9d The DMLW\'s mission is \xe2\x80\x9cto provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska\'s state-owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.\xe2\x80\x9d The Regional Lands Sections support this mission by issuing land use authorizations that allow for responsible development and use of state land. This position plays a key role in the DMLW mission by adjudicating authorizations for the use of state land. This position supports a team of specialists in meeting the Division and Department missions in the adjudication and authorization of appropriate use and management that facilitates the development of state lands consistent with the public interest.

Core Responsibilities
This position manages the Permit and Material Sales Unit of the Southeast Region Land Office in the Division of Mining, Land and Water. This position is responsible for directing and managing a staff of two Natural Resource Specialists and one Natural Resources Technician in writing and preparing best interest findings and decisions for land use permits and material sale contracts and managing the front desk. The incumbent will work closely with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as industry clients, in the execution of the position\xe2\x80\x99s duties. Under the supervision of the Regional Manager, this position sets work priorities for the unit, assigns work, interprets and ensures that the program\xe2\x80\x99s performance goals and measures are being completed on schedule, and reviews work to ensure compliance with state statutes, regulations, and policies.
