Natural Resource Members - Saint-Gaudens National Historical ParkSummaryAmerican Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with Saint-Gaudens Memorial, is seeking 2 Members to contribute to Natural Resource Management alongside National Park Service Staff.For more information about ACE, please visit usaconservation dot org.Start Date: May/June 2025Estimated End Date: August/September 2025*a 11-week minimum commitment is required *Location Details/Description: Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park - Cornish, NHSaint-Gaudens National Historical Park preserves and interprets the home, artwork, properties, and life of renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and other artists within the Cornish Colony. The park is located in Cornish, New Hampshire. This small town is situated along the Connecticut River which separates Vermont and New Hampshire. It is part of both the Upper Valley and Sugar River Region. New Hampshire has no income tax and no sales tax and has affordable communities nearby that offer an outstanding quality of life. Full-service communities near Cornish include Lebanon, Claremont, and Hanover, NH, and Windsor, White River Junction, Woodstock, and Springfield, VT. Cornish, NH is less than 2 hours from Burlington, VT and 2.5 hours from Boston. New York City is approximately 5 hours away and can also be reached by daily Amtrak and coach bus service.For more information about Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park, please visit www [dot] np [dot] gov [backslash] sagaPosition Overview:This position will be part of a team assisting the Park's Resource Management program in a variety of natural resource projects, including the survey and management of invasive plants (70%). Other activities may include trail maintenance, water quantity monitoring, lumber stacking and solar-kiln operation, using hand-held GPS units, data entry, and training and leading other employees and volunteers in resource management activities (30%).This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00am - 4:30pm.Position BenefitsLiving Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $750/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and will not be provided..Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific training may include plant identification, safety, and GIS mapping.QualificationsRequired:

  • Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to work outdoors.
  • ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Preferred:
  • Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a natural resource or related degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as biology or botany.
  • Knowledge of plants and wildlife.
  • Experience using ArcGIS
  • Ability and willingness to work outside for long periods of time in sometimes challenging conditions.
  • Deep interest in natural resources, botany, and/or invasive plant management.
Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:
  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, hiking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. Manual dexterity required for use of various tools, computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, ladders, and/or crouch. Ability to traverse uneven and/or unpaved exterior areas throughout the park grounds.
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 25 pounds unassisted, ability to move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Environmental: Work environment can change frequently; working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates.
  • Noise Environment: Moderate to high noise such as hand and power tools. Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, uneven and off-trail terrain, wetland conditions, and biting insects.. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the National Park Service or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the National Park Service. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the National Park Service, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it.
