Network CoordinatorSTATUS: Full-time, ExemptDEPARTMENT: Information Technology - NetworkLOCATION: Grand Rapids - W.A. Lettinga CampusREPORTS TO: Director for Network Computing and TelecommunicationsSALARY: $50,000 - $53,000(actual salary will depend on education and experience)SUMMARY:This position provides technical assistance for the following: structured network/phone design and implementation; equipment purchasing, installation and support; participation in network/phone planning for all network/phone related ITS projects. This position requires a skilled, self motivated person to coordinate and support a system wide integrated network. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University\'s mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.RESPONSIBILITIES: * Coordinate all activities in support of the geographically distributed, Local Area and Wide Area Network Technology.

  • Assist supervisor and other IT staff in evaluating new network systems and solutions for potential implementation into the integrated network environment.
  • Coordinate activities with IT staff and end user groups to ensure compliance with network infrastructure and equipment standards.
  • Assist in developing backup and redundant strategies, documenting all procedures and provide periodic training to all IT support personnel.
  • Install and maintain network routers/switches/phones and other network/phone equipment and applications used to operate, monitor, and control network/phone services.
  • Serve as backup to the Customer Support Center in the event of a network/phone problem or any other network/phone type issue.
  • Develop, implement, document and maintain a high level of network security; provide overall ITS security consultation for areas beyond the network.
  • Monitor and maintain acceptable network/phone operation for all University constituents (faculty, staff, and students).
  • Be available via cell phone after hours for network/phone outage assistance.
  • Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.

  • Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in related field preferred.
  • Commercial router experience desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large networks of 25 nodes or greater.
  • Demonstrated ability to think logically, analyze data, and process detailed information.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and directed in individual work assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and assignments.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings, weekends or holidays as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.
  • Must be available via cell phone for after hours network/phone outage assistance.
  • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
  • Some travel between locations required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
