POSITION: Nursing Assistant

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time .75-.9 FTE (60-72 hours per pay period)

WORK SCHEDULE: 12-hour shifts, Days, Nights, Every 3rd Weekend

DEPARTMENT: Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics

JOB SUMMARY:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) serves the hospital patient population by assisting to provide direct patient care which meets the assigned unit needs through regular rounding. The House Supervisor/Nurse Director may re-assign to other units based on changes of volumes and acuity.

JOB DUTIES:
Customer Service:

1. The Nursing Assistant demonstrates a professional and compassionate attitude towards patients, families, visitors, coworkers and other departmental representatives.
2. The Nursing Assistant demonstrates a positive, welcoming and helpful attitude towards all individuals who enter or contact the department.
3. The Nursing Assistant answers patients\' call lights promptly and communicates/completes needed patient intervention.
4. The Nursing Assistant maintains confidentiality of all pertinent information to ensure patient, visitor and employee rights are protected.
5. The Nursing Assistant handles all organizational information in a manner that ensures strict confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Patient Care Duties:

1. The Nursing Assistant assists in the delivery of patient care as directed to include: transfers, ambulation, feeding, dressing, bathing, weighing, and toileting.
2. The Nursing Assistant transports or assists with the transporting of patients.
3. The Nursing Assistant promptly delivers specimens and supplies within the hospital.
4. The Nursing Assistant reports significant events and actions promptly to the RN.
5. The Nursing Assistant applies monitors and reports to the RN the effectiveness of any safety device and/or mobility alarm.

General:

1. The Nursing Assistant demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with hospital safety, disaster and emergency procedures.
2. The Nursing Assistant cleans and disinfects equipment as needed and assists in keeping unit clean and organized.
3. The Nursing Assistant attends required in-services and staff meetings.
4. The Nursing Assistant understands and adheres to departmental policies and procedures.
5. Care is delivered with adherence to the policies and procedures of Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
6. Performs and demonstrates competency for all CNA responsibilities for patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS: * Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Graduate of a Nursing Aide program. Certification and current listing on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry preferred.
• BLS Certification or ability to obtain within two months of hire and maintains certification.
• Experience in an ambulatory or inpatient health care setting with ability to multi-task and manage multiple patient/family/nursing/physician priorities within short time frames preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to adhere to and follow Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital Mission, Values, Vision and policies.
• Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
