Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

under the direction of the Director of Nursing, handles admissions, scheduling of surgical patients, preparing daily admission paperwork for surgical patients.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), graduate of a Professional Technical program preferred or equivalent combination or education and experience. Medical terminology required and prior medical office experience a plus.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

familiarity with personal computer and ancillary office equipment, electronic medical record systems, knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of basic medical duties. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software products and HST Pathways Management systems for patient registration, scheduling and billing a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:

scheduling of surgical procedures processing patients and partnering with billing/precert departments for efficient collection of revenue staffing the reception desk, greeting patients, and handling admission paperwork assisting clinical staff and physicians as necessary assisting in the FSSC/GMC Business Office as necessary answers telephone and appropriately refers questions for resolution escort patients from waiting area to preparation area maintains a clean and safe work environment enters information into computer system as necessary consistently fosters an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation through communication and cooperation with all members of the health care team as evidenced by observation. develops and maintains personal and professional skills serves on committees and/or participates in changes of policy and procedures that affect the operation of services as documented. supports the mission and goals of the Center with a positive attitude consistently adheres to OSHA bloodborne pathogen guidelines; apply universal precautions per Center standards as observed. consistently utilizes proper body mechanics as observed. accurately completes incident reports within the shift of occurrence and immediately communicates critical incidents to the appropriate person per the organizational chart. consistently adheres to HIPAA regulations for privacy and confidentiality

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

this position has no supervisory responsibilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

the ability to communicate effectively with the public, peers and physicians in verbal and written form, ability to speak English, ability to read and comprehend instructions and understand medical terminology, ability to understand reports generated by computer system.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

the ability to add, subtract, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY:

the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, ability to deal with problem solving of several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate physical effort; prolonged sitting and keyboarding; read, write, speak, and understand English; transfer, transport and ambulate patients up to 300 lbs.; prolonged standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, stooping; near and far visual acuity, distance vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus; ability to hear equipment alarms, call lights, telephone and through a stethoscope; fine and gross manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other medical equipment; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance; must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency; detail oriented; able to maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor under all circumstances.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
