Job Summary and Qualifications

The Operating Room RN provides nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:

• \xc2\xb7 Assesses, plans and evaluates the nursing care needs of the patient before, during and after a surgical procedure.
• \xc2\xb7 Provides nursing care to the patient undergoing surgical procedures.
• \xc2\xb7 Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients.
• \xc2\xb7 Participates in the care of patients receiving conscious sedation.
• \xc2\xb7 Carries out physician orders.
• \xc2\xb7 Administers prescribed medications, applies dressings, monitors vital signs.
• \xc2\xb7 Assists physician during procedures.
• \xc2\xb7 Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
• \xc2\xb7 Coordinates the operating room with respect to sterility, cleanliness, availability of functioning equipment and supplies.
• \xc2\xb7 Ensures the proper handling of specimens.
• \xc2\xb7 Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• \xc2\xb7 Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
• \xc2\xb7 Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
• \xc2\xb7 Orients and mentors new staff members.
• \xc2\xb7 Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Job Qualifications include:

• \xc2\xb7 Current FL RN Licensure or
• \xc2\xb7 Recognized Compact Licensure (subject to Florida State Licensing Requirements, including/not limited to ongoing eligibility and duration provisions)
• \xc2\xb7 Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider.
• \xc2\xb7 Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• \xc2\xb7 Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
• \xc2\xb7 Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
• \xc2\xb7 Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
