POSITION TITLE: Organist/Accompanist

HOURS: Part-time

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Pastor

PURPOSE: To provide appropriate organ and piano music to enhance all worship services and other

occasional gatherings. The organist will work positively as a part of the staff and choir to provide

meaningful worship experiences in music while fulfilling the vision and mission of PSUMC\'s music

ministry goals.

SKILLS DESIRED:

1. Ability to demonstrate excellent technique in performance on the organ and piano.

2. Fluent sight reading skills

3. Demonstrated ability to play a wide variety of musical styles.

4. Ability to demonstrate improvisational skills as needed when required.

5. Self-motivated and takes the initiative to accomplish musical tasks as needed.

6. Ability to relate to and works well with children, youth and adults.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

1. In consultation with the Pastor, select and provide organ/piano prelude, postlude, and offertory

music at all traditional Sunday worship services, mid-week worship occasions, and all special

celebrations.

2. Accompany vocalist and instrumentalists as scheduled by the Pastor.

3. Provide organ/piano music for all weddings held at the church when the organ is the primary

instrument used. Fees for these services are not provide by the church, but are honorariums for

couples and families at an amount determined by church policy. The use of the organ by another

organist may be used only by special permission from staff organist or Pastor.

4. When possible, provide organ/piano music for all funerals held at the church. Extra compensation

for this service will not be provided by the church, but families may provide honorariums directly

to the organist.

5. Choose and purchase, in consultation with the Pastor, appropriate organ/piano music within the

approved budgetary parameters.

6. Provide an appropriate level of organ/piano music as required for choir practice.

7. Contact the Pastor at the earliest available time to report any absences due to illness or other

emergency.

8. Personal Leave Requirements of the Organist/Accompanist Position:

a. No personal leave may be taken in the first Ninety (90) days of employment.

b. After the first six (6) months of employment, the organist/accompanist is eligible to take

one (1) Wednesday rehearsal and the next consecutive Sunday worship as paid personal

leave time off After one (1) year of employment, the organist/accompanist is eligible to

take two weeks of paid personal time off. A week of paid personal time off consists of

one (1) Wednesday rehearsal followed by the next consecutive Sunday worship service.

c. Unused personal leave time does not accumulate or carry over to the following calendar

year.

d. All personal leave time off must be approved in advance by the Pastor. No personal leave

time off may be taken during the church holidays of Easter, Homecoming, Church

Christmas Music Sunday or Christmas Eve.
