POSITION SUMMARY:

The Painter is responsible for painting all common areas, apartments, refurbishments and other areas as assigned by Supervisor. Responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint to various surfaces, completing touchups, and coordinating large painting projects. The goal is to contribute to the construction and maintenance of beautiful, strong and long-lasting living and working areas at Friendship Village.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

\xc2\xb7 Prepare apartments for occupancy by preparing all surfaces and painting as instructed.

\xc2\xb7 Reads blueprints/instructions and examines surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.

\xc2\xb7 Works closely with Supervisor to develop and maintain painting schedules.

  • Applies paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
  • Repairs drywall, installs and repairs wallpaper as needed, including mudding and taping.
  • Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other finishes.
  • Prepares walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc. Fills cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g. plaster).
  • Covers surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
  • Calculates amounts of required materials and estimate costs.
  • Erects scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Removes fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
  • Selects and buys paint from vendors.
  • Accomplishes all work in the order of priority set by Supervisor. All work is to be performed in a professional manner, including high quality work practices, safety, neatness, thoroughness, follow up and clean up.
  • Maintains awareness and fixes the appearance of the corridors, laundries, lounges, stairways, and all other common areas.
  • Ensures inventory of painting supplies is maintained always.
  • Maintains all tools, equipment and supplies in proper condition.

\xc2\xb7 Occasionally required to carry or lift items weighing up to 60 pounds for short distances. Required to obtain assistance of another qualified employee when attempting to lift objects over 60 pounds.

\xc2\xb7 Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position.

\xc2\xb7 Tolerate standing and walking for up to 8 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces.

\xc2\xb7 Frequently performs activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, kneeling, balancing, pushing and trunk twisting throughout the day.

\xc2\xb7 Requires constant hand grasp and finger dexterity.

\xc2\xb7 Constantly able to communicate verbally and in written form.

\xc2\xb7 Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds.

\xc2\xb7 Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate environmental issues.

\xc2\xb7 Frequently able to use all types of vision, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, to complete daily tasks. Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

\xc2\xb7 High School diploma or equivalent required.

\xc2\xb7 Minimum of five (5) years\' experience in commercial or residential housing industries.

\xc2\xb7 Proven experience as a painter.

\xc2\xb7 Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them.

\xc2\xb7 Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques.

\xc2\xb7 Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.).

\xc2\xb7 Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines.

\xc2\xb7 Working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential.

\xc2\xb7 Able to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

\xc2\xb7 Work collaboratively in a team environment that promotes inclusiveness and communication among team members.
