PARK COORDINATORPURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATIONThe purpose of this classification is to supervise, coordinate, and participate in the work of staff responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled grounds, gardening, turf maintenance, and park maintenance duties involved in the operations, and management of County parks, athletic facilities, playgrounds, campsites, marinas, pools, and other amenities as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations provides training to volunteers or other workers.Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations. Monitors customer behavior and conducts crowd control.Assists with development of budget for area of assignment; assists in obtaining competitive bids.Recruits and schedules volunteers, community service workers, or other workers to assist with various activities; supervises activities of volunteers, community service workers, or other workers.Inspects assigned park areas for hazards; monitors weather conditions and makes decisions to close outdoor facilities due to inclement weather.Checks pool water levels and chemical levels, making necessary adjustments at designated park/facilities; inspects chlorine feeder pumps, pool acid feeder pumps, skimmer, main drain, and pool equipment; backwashes pool; maintains medical emergency and rescue equipment; performs lifeguard duties as needed depending on assigned area.Performs turf management, storm water erosion and management, and pesticide applications at designated park/facilities.Performs work on various projects including interior/exterior painting, plumbing, minor electrical repairs, and building maintenance.Assists in registering customers for programs and rentals; enters customer reservation and rental data into computer database; maintains attendance records; calculates and collects appropriate fees.Coordinates timely preparation and maintenance of athletic fields, pools, campsites, buildings, and facilities for games/activities; requests, supervises, and/or assists with preparation and setup of athletic fields and recreational facilities; inspects vehicles, fields, campsites, marina, pavilions, playgrounds, piers, bathhouses, and other facilities to identify problems, maintenance issues, or safety concerns.Monitors inventory of equipment and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct programs and work activities; initiates orders for new/replacement materials; maintains computerized inventory database; performs minor repairs; informs supervisory personnel of faulty or malfunctioning equipment.Maintains program records; records program expenditures and revenues; maintains records of accidents/incidents and follows up on status/resolution.Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, budget documents, invoices, payments/revenues, registration forms, performance evaluations, job applications, vehicle maintenance reports, brochures, rule books, blueprints, drawings, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, or other computer programs; performs basic maintenance of computer system and office equipment, such as backing up data or replacing paper, ink, or toner.Operates a variety of equipment associated with work activities, which may include a motor vehicle, general office equipment, cash register, pitching machine, chalk machine, paint striper, popcorn machine, lawn maintenance equipment, shovel, rake, mechanic tools, hand tools, tractor, backhoe, leaf blower, or field dragging machine.Oversees and performs numerous landscaping tasks including watering, planting, weeding, fertilizing grass and flowers, trimming hedges, and laying/spreading mulch.Responds to complaints and questions related to park activities; provides information, researches problems, and initiates problem resolution.Performs general clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, typing documents, entering data into computer, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, or processing incoming/outgoing mail.Provides assistance to other employees as needed. Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor\'s degree in Recreation Administration, Resource or Park Management or closely related field; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving recreation and park program administration, aquatics facility and program administration, athletic program administration, and/or athletic field maintenance, supplemented by experience involving program coordination and supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain valid Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification. May require possession and maintenance of valid Certified Pool Operator and Certified Lifeguard for the Professional Rescuer certifications. May require possession and maintenance of a valid Pesticide Applicator\'s License, Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification, and/or Class IV Water License through the Georgia Rural Water Association, depending on assigned area. Operation of a motor vehicle requires possession and maintenance of a valid Georgia driver\'s license.
