Join our Lake Team at a premier outdoor park. Lake Wheeler Park has 650 acres of waterway with a variety waterfront amenity. Waterfront access to motorized and nonamortized boats including a variety of land-based activities. Park amenities include picnic shelters, playground, indoor and outdoor rental facilities. Recreational Fishing year-round from the banks of Simpkins Pond to the fishing piers on Lake Wheeler.Lake Wheeler Park Operations Specialist is responsible for assisting park management with day-to-day park services and lake programs. Includes opportunity to work with and lead part time waterfront staff. Responsibilities include performing opening and closing of park and waterfront facilities, maintaining safe and clean park grounds, performing park patrols on water and land, conducting regular safety checks, providing team support to maintain park facilities.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the opening and closing of park, including facilities and proper handling of funds.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of Park Facilities, when Full-time Staff are present, and when Full-time Staff are not present.
  • Process customer transactions through POS Recreation software.
  • Engage with patrons and help create a welcoming environment.
  • Perform patrols on park lands and waterway, inspecting and maintaining park facilities.
  • Ability to understand and communicate PRCR policies to park patrons.
  • Issues and maintains inventory of various outdoor equipment including rental supplies.
  • Set up and clean rental facilities before and after use by patrons.
  • Operate various Park vehicles (City truck, motorboat, park utility vehicle, self-propelled boats, mountain bike) to perform job duties.
  • Responsible for assisting facility operations.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Typical Qualifications
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current valid Driver\'s License. Expectation to obtain City of Raleigh Drivers Permit
  • Part Time employment 20 - 30 hours per week. Shifts range from 6 am to 9 pm depending on season.
  • Applicants must be enthusiastic about working with all populations, display personal maturity, possesses communication and customer service skills, be self-motivated and confident in dealing with conflict resolution.
  • Position requires the ability to work flexible hours throughout the week, weekends, and holiday availability is required. Potential to work after hour rentals and special events.
  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs. independently and 100 lbs. cooperatively.
  • Applicant must be able to traverse or hike one mile on uneven terrain with Pack or first aid kit.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR certification.
Additional Information
  • Candidates must pass criminal background check and controlled substance test to be considered for the position.
  • Complete North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Boating Education Course.
  • Successfully complete required city trainings withing 60 days of hire.
Employees in regular, recurring positions that require 1,000 scheduled work hours or more per year, whether these positions are full-time or part-time, are required to participate in LGERS. N.C. state laws require both the City of Raleigh and the participating employee to contribute to LGERS. Employees are required to contribute 6% of their total annual earnings on a pre-tax basis; LGERS establishes local government rates each year for City contributions. This position is LGERS eligible.
