The is a full spectrum life safety agency protecting about 500 square miles and over one million people who live and work in Maryland\'s most populous jurisdiction. MCFRS is a combination system (volunteer/career) in the suburban Washington, D.C. area, operating with an annual budget of over $220 million. MCFRS Responds annually to over 120,000 emergency calls for service and is staffed by nearly 2,700 career and volunteer responders.

What You\'ll Be Doing

MCFRS is seeking to fill the part-time position of Therapist I. Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, you will provide to MCFRS employees, volunteers and family members crisis intervention therapy, psychotherapy, clinical assessments, and referrals for treatment and related professional services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing Clinical assessment, treatment of individuals, couples and family. As the Therapist, you will perform clinical assessments of clients; coordinate referrals to other resources as appropriate; perform crisis intervention; provide short-and long-term therapy to clients; and identify and recommend appropriate resources.
  • Record Keeping. In this position. you will maintain client records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Training and Education. As the Therapist, you will assist in providing resources to MCFRS employees, volunteers, and family members, which may include but is not limited, to information on community programs, and psychoeducational media for various mental health issues or coping strategies; and participate in facilitating training for stress management and mental health resources for the new recruits and occasionally for existing MCFRS employees and volunteers.

  • Written communication to understand written information, draw inferences, form hypotheses and develop logical arguments, and to express such information verbally so that others will understand.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with other employees, clients and their families, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to make independent judgments; schedule and refer out clients based on clinical judgment; and follow a code of professional ethics and licensing
  • Follow directions in a professional manner; prepare reports and document client services in a timely and professional manner.
  • Act professionally with regard to a code of ethics and confidentiality.
Candidates with prior experience in a medical office or experience with first responders and trauma are strongly desired. Experience in forensic or community mental health settings is preferred. The candidate selected for this position will be required to complete a department background investigation and a medical exam with drug/alcohol screening.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $50,404.50 (minimum) - $65,465.25 (maximum) based on 30 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master\'s Degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, nursing, or a related behavioral science field.

License Requirements:

One of the following licenses, issued by the State of Maryland, must be held prior to appointment, and maintained by, the employee:
  • Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW);
  • Licensed Graduate Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LGADC);
  • Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC); or
  • Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT).
Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.

Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver\'s license from the applicant\'s state of residence when required for job-related duties.
