Pay: $26.84-$32.74 hourly DOE


The Financial Counselor provides one-on-one financial counseling to uninsured, underinsured, and patients with balances after insurance with the goal of securing payment, a payment agreement, or financial assistance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Interprets and helps communicate with patients about insurance benefits. The Financial Counselor executes the patient collections processes relating to bad debt. The Financial Counselor must be able to communicate effectively and pleasantly both over the phone and in person.





KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:


The financial counselor must have a thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing practices relating to coordination of benefits. Minimum of a high school diploma required. Two to three years of experience in computerized hospital patient accounts is required. Annual education to obtain and maintain Certified Application Counselor and Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility status is required. This position must present a professional appearance, deal courteously and respectfully with patients, be able to learn and follow established departmental policies, be able to perform work with attention to detail, be able to maintain accurate records and be able to contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment.
