Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Cardiovascular ICU Unit is hiring a Part-Time, Night Shift, Patient Care Technician (PCT)!

Hours/Shift:

Part-Time (24 hours), Night Shift (7P-7A)

Department Overview: The cardiac surgical ICU is a 20-bed unit at our Norfolk General Hospital. The patient population can include patients who have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries.

Position Overview: As a Patient Care Technician with Sentara, you will have the opportunity to learn many new skills. From taking vitals to blood draws and daily care. The primary duties of this position include supporting the admission/discharge process, changing, bathing ambulating patients, drawing blood, foley catheter care, meeting patient needs while working under the direct supervision of a nurse. Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent AND one of the following
• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or
• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
• American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire

Preferred:

• One year of prior health care experience preferred

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients\' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing. For those acting as Safety Partners, de-escalation and physical intervention training within 30 days of hire, except for those in Behavioral Health within 15 days of hire. One of the following programs is acceptable for education: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant. One year of health care experience preferred. AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
