Responsibilities:

The Patient Referral Coordinator gathers patient information to determine if a referral is needed for procedures. They work directly with primary care physicians to gain authorization and follow up to ensure timely approval.

Contacts patients, physician offices, and referral sources as needed regarding account issues. Submit the required forms and documentation to obtain authorization for services, supplies, and equipment for patients under the assigned payers. Completes follow up on requests to ensure timely turnaround and approval. Understands payers requirements to ensure approval is granted. Escalates problem accounts and ensures resolution is met. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of patient care, employee activities, and office environment. Follows HIPAA guidelines. Participates in projects or process updates as they relate to improving key outcomes. Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with UVVC policies, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other applicable laws and regulations. PHI is a top priority of our organization. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
HS Diploma/GED required. Minimum of 1-2 years experience with insurance verification and patient referral processes. Exceptional written and verbal communication. Proficient with MS Office, specifically Excel. * Experience with practice management systems such as ECW (eClinicalWorks) preferred but not required.
