The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Pavement Markings Lead (Highway Maintenance Worker 3) to play a vital role in supporting our mission to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation options. In this position, you will provide crucial traffic control and highway maintenance support for the Northwest Region Pavement Marking crews and the Area 51 Sign crew. Your efforts will contribute to the safe and efficient movement of goods, services, and people throughout the region, aligning with WSDOT\'s mission. What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Pavement Markings Lead will:

  • Lead a region-wide crew maintaining Thermoplastic Pavement Markings throughout the Northwest Region.
  • Maintain crosswalks, stop bars, turn arrows, railroad crossings, and other types of Thermoplastic Pavement Markings.
  • Organize crews, prioritize, and plan daily operations.
  • Coordinate and perform proper traffic control following Work Zone Traffic Control Guidelines (WSDOT M54-44) and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Read plans and collaborate with various WSDOT Engineers to complete work orders promptly.
  • Provide traffic control operations for all pavement marking groups and sign crew.
  • Plan and execute traffic control and flagging per MUTCD / WSDOT M54-44 guidelines.
  • Operate pickups and truck-mounted attenuators (TMAs) with arrow boards/VMS signs for mobile operations.
  • Serve as Maintenance Supervisor delegate as needed, planning and organizing crews for daily maintenance operations.
  • Review and approve timecards, sign documents and receipts, and deliver paperwork for processing while performing various tasks in all pavement markings and sign crews.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • One (1) year experience as
or ; or two (2) years of experience as a Maintenance Technician 2, Bridge Maintenance Technician 2, or or equivalent combination of experience. * Possess an unrestricted Washington State CDL Class A without air brake restrictions and Tanker endorsement (N).
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions, navigate uneven terrain, handle chemicals and waste, and control live traffic from stationary and moving platforms.
  • Ability to work nights, days, weekends, and extended hours (Overtime) may be required.
  • Ability to travel locally to perform daily work assignments. Frequent out-of-town travel for extended periods of time may be required for this position.
  • Experience in basic computer operations, including data entry.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have the following:
  • Experience with the layout and installation of various pavement markings per WSDOT standard plans.
  • Experience performing traffic control per WSDOT M54-44/MUTCD guidelines.

  • The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 10% Group C premium for HMW3 positions located in Seattle, WA.
  • The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
  • This position is not eligible for remote work.
  • Typical schedule is Monday-Thursday, 40 hours per week (4 I 10-hour days).
