POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for executing payroll for their assigned resort(s)/corporate employees. The position will work closely with the Human Resources, HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems), and Benefits teams, as well as with our 3rd party partners to deliver an exceptional payroll process that is completed accurately and timely. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for meeting all deadlines, preparing time and attendance for processing, performing payroll calculations, manual entry and adjustments, auditing results, and reconciling the payroll back to all inputs. The ideal candidate is detail oriented and understands the importance of providing exceptional customer service, providing timely and accurate responses to all employees, HR and resort leaders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities
  • Provide a high level of service and support to all Alterra Mountain Company employees. Assist employees with questions about their wages, taxes and/or deductions listed on their pay statements.
  • Prepare employee records for payroll processing in payroll systems utilized (UltiPro, Workday and ADP).
  • Support the Time and Attendance activity utilizing Kronos/UKG.
  • Enter and verify all deduction amounts included on pay run.
  • Process reports to analyze payroll data for integrity.
  • Process requests from the resort for manual payroll checks verifying all wages and deductions required, including processing stop payments on lost paychecks and reissuing checks.
  • Process/support all Court Orders to include and not limited to garnishment, and tax levy\'s in UltiPro, Workday and ADP. Include verification of accurate calculations and any necessary communication to the employee or resorts.
  • Assist HR/Payroll resort staff with time entry problems in Kronos/UKG. Become subject matter expert in order to troubleshoot problems/errors as they arise and could impact the accuracy of the payroll output.
  • Audit reports during payroll processing for benefits, including prepayments, refunds and any additional deductions for arrears.
  • Support the benefits team with Workday leave of absence adjustments related to deductions and time off accruals.
  • Provide support to US Benefits team(s) with Workday enrollment and other benefits issues
  • Research and provide information for unclaimed wage payments.
  • Support quarter and Year End tax reporting processes as required by law.
  • Complete employment verifications from various agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years, multi-State payroll experience including taxes and garnishments, pay calculations, multi-state taxation rules, wage and hour laws and functional payroll processing.
  • Experience with weekly, bi-weekly, hourly and salaried payrolls.
  • Benefits knowledge, including taxation.
  • Finance/Accounting knowledge or experience required. Ability to use query and report generation tools.
  • Workday experience required
  • Kronos and experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Knowledge of computer network systems.
  • Understanding of manual payroll process from timecard calculations to the posting of payroll to the general ledger.
  • Canadian payroll processing experience a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with the accounting and functional groups and senior management to collect, normalize and analyze data for financial & payroll reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting or similar field, or equivalent 3 years work experience
  • FPC or CPP certification preferred
