Summary of Responsibilities:



$1,500.00 Sign on Bonus

$500 Sign-On Bonus upon hire as a full-time employee. Another two $500 bonuses over the following year for a full-time employee.

The Peer Support Specialist will promote family preservation by working directly with at risk families in the community served, to strengthen and support the family unit.

  • This position is to be an advocate, model advocacy and ensure that the \xe2\x80\x9cvoice\xe2\x80\x9d of the family is leading care planning and implementation.
  • The position may provide services that include parenting coaching, teaching and the promotion of parent involvement activities.
  • This position will provide information, referrals and linkages to available community resources.
  • This position will assist to advance the family\'s home management skills and provide hands on assistance in the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment.
The Peer Support Specialist will provide families with information, referrals and linkages to available community resources.
  • This position will work directly with at risk families in the community or their homes in order to promote, strengthen and develop parenting skills as well as provide parent coaching, teaching and the promotion of parent involvement activities.
  • The Peer Support Specialist will promote the development of family organizational and budget management skills to empower the family to achieve self-sufficiency.
  • This position will perform a variety of tasks to ensure a safe and healthy home environment including cleaning, teaching appropriate household maintenance skills and assisting with developing house cleaning routines.
  • This position will assist families experiencing a crisis in which immediate response is required for crisis stabilization on a short-term basis only.

Pay:
  • $17.00/hour + depending on education and experience
  • 3% pay increase after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period.





Supervision and Coordination of Services:

  • Reports to the Wraparound Coach Clinical Supervisor





Qualifications:



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have an Alaska driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and have adequate insurance, as defined by AK Child & Family, in order to carry out the duties of the job.
  • Possesses a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Displays an understanding and sensitivity in serving a culturally diverse and/or specials needs population.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to: relate positively to children and families with severe emotional problems, engage in physical activity, and communicate effectively in English (oral and written) and the ability work independently.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal English.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with agency staff as they must work a flexible schedule, including after hours and on-call responsibilities to respond to client\xe2\x80\x99s crisis.
  • Must demonstrate ability to use a computer for both word processing and an electronic health record system for documentation purposes.
Education and Experience:
  • 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Meet State of Alaska background check requirements.
  • Two (2) years of lived experience navigating the mental health, special education, juvenile justice, or child welfare system as a consumer parent, foster parent, or adoptive parent is required.





Physical Demands:

  • The Peer Support Specialist must be able to access AK Child & Family and community buildings for meetings and agency activities.
  • The Peer Support Specialist is required to have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and an adequately insured personal vehicle for reliably getting to and from work responsibilities as work responsibilities require.
  • Transport self within the Anchorage Borough to meet with schools, families in their homes, and other involved parties.
  • Must have flexible work schedule to meet family\'s needs, which may involve scheduling appointments in the evening or on weekends.
  • Must produce in a timely manner, assessments and other documentation required by AK Child & Family, insurance and referral sources.
  • The Peer Support Specialist must be able to use a copy machine, fax machine, be able to produce legible student records, and prepare reports using a computer.
