Pharmacist Interns, under the supervision of a license pharmacist, assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department. Pharmacist Interns assist the pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacist Interns function in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines and state and federal regulations. Interns will be allowed to process orders but the orders must be validated by a pharmacist before dispensing. Pharmacy interns will be allowed to answer drug information questions but must have the answer verified by a pharmacist before they can dispense the information. Pharmacy interns are allowed to give patients counseling regarding instructions on how to use their medication, expected side effects and general precautions as well as interview patients to obtain further clarification regarding medication use. Pharmacy interns will assist when needed to perform MUE on patient charts when needed. Pharmacy interns will be allowed to take clarifications and verbal orders from physicians and must perform the read back function as per hospital protocol for all telephone orders from physicians. The intern position includes being able to perform all the duties expected of a pharmacy technician interns will be expected to cover the same shifts. The intern will participate in continuing education with the pharmacists as time permits. All work performed by a pharmacy technician must be supervised by a pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.
Qualifications

Education:
High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience:
Minimum of one year (1) required, preferable in a hospital setting.

Technical Skills:
Automation experience with knowledge of reporting features (i.e., optimization, load/unload, nursing narcotic access, etc.)

License/Certification:
Current license as Pharmacist Intern in State of Nevada

Other:

Current enrollment and in good standing in an accredited school of pharmacy
