Broward County Urban Planning Division (UPD) is seeking a Senior Planner to join its Platting Section. The Platting Section provides Countywide services regarding platting of lands, and vacation of plats, easements, rights-of-way and other related encumbrances.

The Senior Planner will be responsible for the coordination of various platting application requests and associated assignments. Job functions include preparing agenda items for the County Commission, reviewing and editing staff reports, and communicating with county agencies, developers and attorneys concerning projects and processes. The position will propose plat note amendment agreements to County Attorney\'s Office for recordation. The Senior Planner will also provide customers and staff with continual technical support throughout the review process, while recommending program and procedural changes. Senior Planner is also responsible for providing technical guidance and support to professional planning staff.

General Description
Performs advanced professional and highly technical planning work managing a major segment of program administration in a county agency.
Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning or closely related field.

Requires two (2) years responsible professional planning experience including two (2) years of lead work/supervisory experience depending upon area of assignment.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

None.

Preferences Masters degree in Urban Planning or closely related field.
American Institute of Certified Planners certification(AICP)
Project Management Professional (PMP).
LEED Certification.
GIS Professional Certification.
Certified Urban Designer, Redevelopment Certifications.
Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED).
2+ years project management experience relevant to area.
2+ years of complex development review experience.
2+ years GIS/POSSE Experience.
2+ years research and analysis experience.
2+ years of experience preparing Development Review Reports for plat applications, update and/or modifying plat submittal and note amendments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Prepares and coordinates plans and programs to improve efficiency; provides interagency coordination; manages specific projects and assists in the implementation of community programs.

Assists in the funding of projects through Federal, State and regional grants; performs grant writing and grants program management and administration.

Attends construction meetings providing alternatives to technical solutions and coordination between different construction projects.

Manages front counter and customer service duties regarding review of construction plans and assists customers with any questions about Broward County\'s permitting process.

Provides customers and staff continual technical support throughout the review process; recommends program and procedural changes; provides supervision, technical guidance and support to professional planning staff.

Reviews all plans for building permits in the unincorporated area of Broward County for the issuance of development orders for building permits and the calculation of development review and impact fees.

Updates spatial data to the County\'s spatial database servers, an electronic geographic data repository; performs online GIS (geographic information system) application development and internet data-sharing improvements: promoting the County\'s commitment to e-government and innovation.

Fulfills requests made by County Administration and Board of Commissioners for maps and data; provides technical and data quality assistance to GIS users throughout the County; trouble-shooting software, user, and computer-related problems impeding agency work.

Attends to public inquiries for data, maps and technical assistance, provides assistance to the public for knowledge about data and maps, generally by telephone or electronically, or in-person.

Prepares memoranda, reports and agenda items as required; regularly makes presentations at public and private meetings.

Conducts research and attends training for professional development.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
