Job Overview:
Under general supervision and administrative direction, has the primary responsibility to provide emergency and non-emergency response to individuals and entities that request or require support services on properties of the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) at Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN); ensure all federal regulations pertinent to safety, security and emergency management are followed; ensure that the laws of the State of Arizona and of the United States are enforced as they pertain to the jurisdiction of the TAA; understand and adhere to department and TAA policies.
Essential Functions: The following functions and all other functions not included in this job description are to be performed in the best interests and for the greater good of TAA.

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations, and TAA policies and procedures in the performance of TAA\xe2\x80\x99s Police activities.
  • Protect life and property and provide public safety within departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Perform law enforcement patrol activities and enforce laws; maintain public order; maintain high visibility to deter and prevent crime, observe criminal behavior, and employ crime prevention techniques; operate patrol vehicles; pursue offenders by patrol vehicle and on foot; conduct investigations; issue summonses/citations and warnings; stop and/or arrest resisting offenders using appropriate force, up to and including deadly force; search persons, places and things for discovery of evidence or weapons; seize and impound property and evidence; transport persons and property.
  • Perform law enforcement tasks mandated by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations Part 1542 and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations FAR Part 139.
  • Utilize the Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures; coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency de-briefing with appropriate departments and stakeholders.
  • Be responsive to airport emergencies and situations that may involve loss of human life or property; support public safety and operational response to emergencies; utilize Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures; coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency de-briefing with appropriate departments and stakeholders.
  • Manage emergency and non-emergency contacts, including radio and telephone communications, including TAA departments, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT), Transportation Security Administration (TSA); and local agencies and other airport operators.
    • Communicate effectively, in person and/or by radio or telephone.
    • Mediate disputes in civil or criminal matters, using sound judgment.
  • Perform crowd and riot control activities, including evacuation.
  • Protect crime and traffic accident scenes; conduct law enforcement investigations; conduct interviews, record information; measure and diagram crime and traffic accident scenes; dictate detailed reports of investigative findings, complete all appropriate paperwork; seize and process evidence; present testimony and evidence in both civil and criminal court proceedings.
  • Perform public assistance activities to include first aid to sick and injured persons; assist motorists; direct traffic; assist and refer persons in need; physically move persons, vehicles and other property from unsafe locations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.

The above listed functions are not necessarily all the essential functions. Job duties and functions may be expanded or reduced by management based on future changing needs and job requirements.
Your Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Age 21 at time of completion of 22 week academy that starts in May 2024.
  • No felony convictions
  • No dishonorable discharge
  • Candidates participate in a physical agility assessment consisting of elements of the POPAT (Police Officer Physical Aptitude Test): A 500 yard run, 99 yard obstacle course, 165lb body drag (32 feet), climbing over a 6 foot chain link fence, and a climb over a 6 foot solid wall. Each event is timed and point allocation is structured to simulate actual job tasks. Candidates must also pass a written exam.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
  • Valid Arizona Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Meet and maintain the ability to drive airport vehicles and obtain authorization to access the Non-Movement Area and Movement Area on the Air Operations Area.
  • Must obtain and maintain access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
  • Must successfully complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800, course requirements and certification within the first year of assuming the position.
  • Maintain Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board certification.
    • Must have the ability to pass an annual respirator fit test.
  • Maintain physical strength, agility, and health.
  • As an employee, you are deemed to be essential personnel as part of TAA\xe2\x80\x99s emergency response, and must respond to airport incidents, as requested/required.
