Dr. Sandra De Urioste-Stone, Associate Professor in the School of Forest Resources at the University of Maine is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral research scholar with strong social science research background and teaching experience. The successful candidate will (1) teach one undergraduate course per semester, and (2) engage in human dimensions research in the area of One Health and tourism. The candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students on a National Science Foundation grant to advance our understanding on the feedback loops between tourism and emerging disease at UMaine. Position is open to social scientists that conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis; experience with qualitative data analysis and participatory techniques is particularly desired.

This is a full time position that will provide an individual who has recently been awarded a doctorate to undertake the responsibilities of a researcher and teacher. The position will include research collaboration, data integration and analysis, and research communication, as well as delivery of classroom instruction to serve the needs of the University of Maine. Typical hiring salary for this soft-money funded position is $55,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, Tourism, One Health, Conservation Social Sciences, Environmental Anthropology, or related fields required.
  • Prior research experience with qualitative and quantitative applied social science research.
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis.
  • Experience conducting multivariate statistical analysis.
  • Ability to develop manuscripts.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational oral communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience with undergraduate teaching.
  • Experience with planning and facilitating participatory workshops.
