Prep CookRevision Date: 8/20/2024Department: EducationEmployment Status: Full-TimeProgram: Education OperationsFLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports To: Food Services CoordinatorSupervises: N/APreference: TERO Ordinance 201-01, P.L. 93-638Job SummaryThe Prep Cook is responsible for providing support to the Cook and Assistant Cooks by prepping and measuring ingredients needed for meal preparation, washing dishes, restocking ingredients and kitchen supplies, conducting weekly shopping trips to maintain needed inventory, taking out the trash, and adhering to DEC and USDA guidelines.Essential Functions

  • Measures and preps needed ingredients for meals
  • Washes dishes, sweeps, mops, cleans equipment (including the grease trap), takes out the garbage, and helps maintain a sanitized environment that meets health code standards
  • Restocks ingredients and kitchen supplies as needed
  • Supports in the preparation and the cooking of a variety of food following USDA-CACFP guidelines
  • Conducts weekly shopping trips with approved inventory list and budget
  • Performs as a team member within the kitchen, and when sharing workspace with the other staff
  • Respects Tribal equipment, including vehicles
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

QualificationsEducation
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience
  • One year (1) of experience in culinary field or food service industry
Preferred
  • Experience working with the USDA, Child and Adult Food Program, or the National School Lunch Program
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
License/Certification
  • Food Worker Card required within 90 days of hire
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification, or obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver\'s license and must remain insurable under the Tribe\'s policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire
Special Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
  • Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un\'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines
