Job Description


Basic Function

Facilitates the safe, reliable and environmentally sound operation of assigned unit(s) through effective planning and scheduling of routine, capital, and turnaround maintenance. Uses independent judgement and discretion to identify, prioritize and schedule all maintenance work within assigned area of responsibility. Works in cooperation with maintenance counterparts and other parties to increase the reliability and availability of operating equipment in assigned unit(s).

Job Duties

  • Schedules identified maintenance work across assigned units. This includes using independent judgement to determine the priority of a job, considering the potential impact on safety, the environment and production
  • Provides collaborative input to developing and scheduling PM for equipment in assigned area(s).
  • Ensure PM\'s are completed per the schedule by prioritizing resources to ensure they can be completed.
  • Ensures all environmental rules and regulations are being met relative to equipment availability
  • Develops turnaround scope for assigned area, works with peers to insure consistency in turnaround planning
  • Coordinates and acts as liaison with Engineering, Maintenance, and Shift Supervision to facilitate communication, align work priorities and ensure safe and profitable unit operation. Helps troubleshoot operational issues related to maintenance needs.
  • Accountable for the maintenance budget for assigned area; report on variances and develop an action plan to achieve budget
  • Formulates processes and programs for operations maintenance such as PM program, winterization plan, steam trap program and steam leak program, working with peers to insure consistency between operating areas
  • Final Operations approver for work order closure
  • Evaluate root cause failure analyses done by the reliability engineers and develop a plan to reduce future failures
  • Order supplies and chemicals/catalyst for assigned area related to normal operation, outages and other special events.
  • Update unit reliability round programs at units.
  • May develop operating, shutdown, start-up and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) lists, procedures and timelines, obtaining final approval for Management of Change (MOC\'s) in area of responsibility
  • Facilitates completion of MOC requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years of refinery operations background and general knowledge of maintenance protocol is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Step-up and/or Special Assignment experience.

Education Level

A minimum of a High School Diploma is required.

Required Skills

Ability to direct and acquire work from a number of resources, in the absence of having direct supervisory responsibility of the resources. Ability to optimize production through identifying and solving problems related to the reliability and availability of equipment within assigned area. Ability to handle high visibility projects and activities, high pressure situations, and long hours. Team player with ability to effectively communicate with others through written and verbal communication. Ability to constructively interact with all levels of staff including engineers, operators, shift and maintenance personnel. Intermediate computer skills, intermediate reading and writing skills and the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Fluency in using maintenance or job planning/scheduling software.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

No direct supervision of employees with the expectations of developing skills to manage employees in future roles.

Work Conditions

Office and Refinery/Industrial environment based with up to 5% travel by land and air is required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors, and driver-based environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment. Subject to all weather, temperatures, and varying road conditions. Subject to occasional weekend and after hour call-outs, and working in confined spaces.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling 25lbs, climbing up to 150ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, valid state driver\'s license and proof of insurance, ability to wear personal protective equipment, and strenuous physical activity.
