The (NED), is a private, nonprofit grantmaking foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the globe. Governed by an independent Board of Directors, NED holds a unique role as America\'s leading foundation for freedom, empowering the institution to be nimble, innovative, and risk-taking in support of democratic activists, civil society organizations, and independent media. We seek a detail-oriented and organized Program Assistant, (Budget and Finance) for the International Forum for Democratic Studies\' Research and Conferences team. This position is based in Washington, D.C.

The at the National Endowment for Democracy drives thought leadership and learning on defining global challenges to democracy that can reverse the authoritarian wave and accelerate democratic renewal. Drawing on NED\'s global network of democracy defenders, the Forum\'s research and activities focus on global challenges to democracy, including: countering authoritarian influence, ensuring information integrity, combating transnational kleptocracy, and leveraging emerging technologies for democracy. By engaging in interdisciplinary convening, publishing, and outreach in Washington, DC and overseas, the Forum seeks to bridge ideas and action in the democracy and policy communities around these defining challenges.

Position Summary:

In order to help the Forum accomplish these goals, the Program Assistant will perform routine financial and travel support tasks, assist the Deputy Director and office leadership with budgeting procedures, and support the research and convening activities on democracy issues and related themes of the Forum\'s work. The ideal candidate will thrive working within our team, supporting NED\'s wide, global network as we engage them through impactful convenings, and maintaining flexibility in supporting variety of research, outreach, and convening activities across the Forum\'s four portfolios.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct most routine Forum financial transactions, and execute vendor procurement and consultant contracts.
  • Collaborate with relevant NED departments and office leadership on matters related to budgetary tracking and financial planning for the Forum\'s internally- and externally-oriented budgets.
  • Support the arrangement of travel and hotel bookings for Forum conference speakers and participants, in coordination with other team members, relevant NED offices, and external vendors.
  • Conduct research and writing tasks such as developing meeting notes and summaries, writing outreach and communications materials, and contributing to other research and writing tasks as time permits and if required.
  • Assist with planning and execution of Forum meetings and conferences, including event-day logistics.
  • Assist Forum R&C leadership with special research projects, as needed.
  • Other related tasks, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in political science, international affairs, or other related field of study required; Master\'s preferred.
  • Administrative and program support experience; experience with routine financial transactions a plus.
  • Mission-driven. Strong interest in democracy research, international affairs/politics, U.S. foreign policy, regional area studies, research program management and implementation, or related field.
  • Familiarity with expense and budget tracking, basic accounting procedures
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • High degree of initiative, ability to multi-task
  • Experience with event planning and execution.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
This position is part of the NED Bargaining Unit.

Located in Washington, D.C., the salary range for this role is $45,500 - $60,625 USD, plus benefits. The final offer for a successful candidate will be determined by a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, education, and market considerations.
