Job Description


With our Agency\'s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, and worked within Forensics Services, Crafts-Farrow State Hospital Campus, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Psychologist I, working under general supervision, will participate in and/or oversee treatment programming and planning for acute and extended care forensic services and direct the professional psychological services rendered to forensic patients within an inpatient setting.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participates in and/or direct multidisciplinary treatment planning for assigned patients at Bryan Forensics. Performs or participates in admission evaluations/assessments as assigned. Supports forensic discharge planning as directed.
  • Provides psychological assessment and consultation services to support forensic treatment needs, to include diagnostic clarification, malingering, violence risk assessment, etc. Develops behavioral intervention plans for patients, as assigned.
  • Provides individual and group therapy services for Bryan Forensics patients, to include competency restoration services as assigned.
  • Performs social security disability evaluations to support discharge platforms, as directed.
  • Provides age-specific and culturally competent service to clients and complies with DMH and Bryan Hospital policies and procedures.
State Requirement: A doctorate in applied psychology from an accredited college or university and experience in the practice of applied psychology.

Agency Requirement: A doctorate in applied psychology from an accredited college or university and experience in the practice of applied psychology. Must be licensed or license eligible as a clinical psychologist in South Carolina.

Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.Candidates who have completed forensic psychology internship or postdoctoral fellowship.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. The selected candidate Court appearances may exceed regular work hours. Physical requirements of the position include but are not limited: must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds, have the ability to walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend, climb stairs, move from one area/building to another, tolerate noise level, deal with unusual patient behaviors, circulate in patient areas and have manual dexterity. Must have a valid driver\'s license.
